IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENERS CLOTHES-LINES, 80C.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 216,646, dated June 17, 1879 application filed J annary 31, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN BOHLEN, of Big .Rapids, in .the county of Mecosta and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fasteners for Clothes-Lines, 850., of which thefollowin g is a specification.
My invention relates to a device adapted for being secured to any fixed support, and forming a fastener for clothes-lines, horselines, 820.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawings.
Figure. 1 is a perspective view of the fastener complete. Fig. .5 is an end view of the swivel-piece that carries the clamping-lever, and Fig. 3 is a front view of the same piece. Fig. 4 is a side elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. I
The fastener consists of three pieces, cast in metalthe support A, swivel piece B, and clampinglever C. The support A consists of a plate, (1., having lugs in which are screwholes for screws to attach the support to any fixed object. Upon an offset at the upper end of plate a is vertical pivot-pin 11, upon which is hung the swiveling piece B.
The piece B (shown separately in Figs. 2 and 3) consists of a block, 0, having a hole, d, formed through it for the pin 1) of piece A, the block 0 resting on the otl'setf of piece A. An arm, e, depends from block 0 and rests against the semicircular offset f from plate. a, that acts to retain arm 0 in a vertical position as piece B is turned horizontally on pin 1).
lines) of the clamping-lever O. The lower end of lever 0 lies against the lower end of arm 0.
To make use of the fastener, the end of the rope to be secured will be carried through the slot in the upper end of 0, down across the front of the lever. and between the clampingsurfaces at the lower end of G and e. The rope will thus beheld, and a pull upon the rope or the tension of the rope, if itbe a clothesline, will serve to clamp the rope more tightly.
The swiveling piece B permits the device to adjust itself to the direction of the pull on the rope.
I have shown sidelugs, 2', upon the clamping end of lever (J, that act to prevent twisting of lever (J on its trunnions, and a projection, is, on arm 6 passes beneath the ofi'set f on plate -a, to prevent pieceB from rising on its pin 1).
The parts are so proportioned that when le- Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the support A, having pivot pin 1) and offset f, the cross-slotted swivel-piece B, consisting of apertured block 0 0?,
having the face-grooved arm 6, and the lever 0, having the fork or slot at upper end, and having short arm with lugs 'i, as shown and described.
JOHN BOHLEN.
