The mattress Ill is supported on a pluralityy of alignedboxes I4, vrI5, Il, whose combined area is equal to that of the mattress, and

(ci v57491,)
which, likewise, lie directly under the large lopening I2 through the mattress. g
The-end box I4 has irl its A'end wall I9 a narrow horizontal slot 20, and in its opposite end wall 2| a wide slot 22, the upper edge of thejslot 22 the loweredge of the slot 22 lying" below the lower edge of the slot 20; A corrugated sheet of 'card 'board 'orY other suitable inexpensive ma-y terial, 23, whose' corrugations or channels 24 `ex ,lil

V`Ii' desired, to facilitate 'l I withdrawal of the board 23'through theslot 20120 and `to prevent the outer edge'oi the board from iallingthrough the slot 20,any suitable means such as tongues 2t may be provided on the router tical f but .complementary construction as "L the The mxdmescx is has a slot ze and 21 ums" end'walls 28- 'and 2l, respectively;` each Vci these slots 22 of the Vend boxes I4 and I5. The box II of its other vertical walls (although such slot may be provided in both.of said other vertical walls) that the edges of the boards 23 protrude into the enclosure of the pan.
The center opening I2 of the mattress is provided with an hourglass-shaped lining 22 of zinc ci other suitable strong but slightly yieldable material, the center of whichj has a peripheral bead I3 formed therein, extending into the opening The opening I2 is pro'- 45 who may be seated at that time on a separate annularcushion having a depending internal ilange 8 5. The latter, when the occupant is seated on the cushion, will be forced downward by his weight into the lining 32, andthe bead 23 serves as a limit-fV stop tothe downward movement oi' the ange -35 to prevent the cushion from being forced too far into the opening I2. Feces which are thus passed will '.all into the pan II. l
The passing of iluid excreta by the occupant is 55 done through any of the openings H. The surfaces of the mattress surrounding the openings I1 may be rounded, if desired. Such iiuid excreta will fall through the holes i1 onto the board 23,
which will catch the same and by gravity pass it face of the mattress now on top and with the former bottom surfaces of the boxes now providing the top surfaces thereof on which the mat-- tress rests. In the said reversing of the boxes,
the boards 23 will have turned on their outer` ends (in the slots 20) as a pivot, so that their inner ends will in the reversed position rest against what was formerly the top edge of the slot 22 but is now the bottom edge; thus, the inclination of the Vboards 23 toward the center box,
pan, will be the same as and, hence, toward the before. Obviously, modincations in form and structure may be made Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
