IMPROVEMENT IN FARM, STREET, AND ROAD SCRAPERS.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JEPTHA WILLIAMS, of Utiea, in the county of Daviess and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Farm, Street, and Road Scrapers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a representa tion of a rear-end view of my improi ed scraper. Fig. 2 is a top view thereof. Fig. 3 is a lon gitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 4 is a side iew, of the same.

This invention has relation to improvements in road, street, and farm scrapers, the object of which is to level roads and streets, and to do general work of a similar nature upon farms.

The nature of the invention consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts,

hereinafter shown and described.

In the annexed drawings, the letter A designates a beam; B, its standard, and C the guiding-handles, not differing in construction and arrangement from those of an ordinary plow. At the lower end ofthe standard is rigidly seenred a heel-plate, a, having on its front edge a transverse sleeve, a, in which is journaled a metallic rod, 1). This rod is rigidly secured to the scraping-board D by means of suitable attachments, usually eye bolts or staples, audits ends are bent forward and rigidly secured to the beam in rear of its clevis d, forming braces d, that hold the said board against displacement. The ends of this board are beveled ofi", as shown at c, the object of this construction being to allow it to turn relative to the standard and to the front without interfering with the braces 61.

At each end of the board D are secured the metallic side pieces, e*, the lower ends of which are beveled off and pointed, as shown at e, for a purpose hereinafter explained.

The board D may be made of wood or metal, or of a combination thereof, and its hingeconnection with the standard allows it to swing from the position shown in Fig. 4 to that illustrated in Fig. 3, these positions being, respectively, the working and dumping ones of said board.

but when a sufficient load has been gathered up by the same it will rotate to the front into the position shown in Fig. 3, when the power-arm of lever G is raised and its forked end disengaged from it, thus dumping its load.
