UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DESK PAD Samuel N. Hope, Wauwatosa, Wis., assignor to Columbian Art Works, Milwaukee, Wis., a corporation of Wisconsin Application July 2, 1937, Serial No. 151,649 Claims. (Cl. 281-1) The invention relates to desk pads such as cal- A rigid cover I 9, preferably in the form of a flat endar pads and the like, and more particularly sheet metal plate, rests on the top surface of the to cover means for the pads. pad and has downturned side anges 2D which An object oi the invention is to provide a simple, project below the plane oi the pad top. The rear neat and inexpensive cover for a desk pad, the ends of the flanges 2G are extended to form ears j cover when in closed position serving to prevent 2i which bear on embossments 22 formed on the blowing and curling oi the pad sheets and to conhead plate side anges Il and are pivotally seceal written matter on the pad, while exposing Cured thereto by axially aligned rivets 23, so that calendar or other indicia on the pad, and the the cover may be swung about a substantially lo cover when in open position forming a screen to horizontal axis. 'I'he construction of the device permits the cover and its pivotal mounting to be inexpensively manufactured, and' provides for display of the calendar indicia in its preferred location above the writing space of the sheets.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a desk pad having a base adapted to support thereon a stack of sheets, the combination of ahead plate engageable with said stack of sheets and secured to said base, and a cover for said sheets having downwardly projecting side' iianges pivotally connected to said head plate', said cover having a transverse edge adjacent said head plate and engageable with said head plate to limit the upward swinging movement of said cover to a substantially upstanding position.
2. `In a desk pad having a base adaptedA to sup-- port thereon a stack of sheets, the combination of a head plate adapted to bear on said stack and secured to said base,v and a cover plate normally resting on said stack, each plate having downturned side flanges integrally formed thereon an'd overlapping the sides of said stack, said cover plate side flanges being pivotally connected to said head plate side flan-gesV at an axis below the top plane of said stackfor swingably mounting said cover plate.
3. In a desk pad having a base adapted tosupport thereon a stack of sheets, the combination of a substantially flat head plate adapted to bear on said stack kand secured to said base and having downturned side iianges overlapping said 'rest on said stack and to descend with the in the plane of said head plate.
4. In a desk pad, the combination of a base adapted to` support thereon a stack of removable sheets, means for securing said stack of sheets to said base including a head plate adapted to stack when the stack is thinned, and a cover for said stack of sheets adapted to normallyY rest on said stack and having downwardly projecting side flanges pivotally connected to said head plate and adapted to overlap the sides of said stack, said flanges being farther apart than the width of the upper portion oi said base and overlapping said base when the stack is thinned.
5'. In a desk pad, the combination of a base adapted to support a stack of removable sheets with indicia thereon, means for securing said sheets to said base including a head plate adapted to rest on said stack and to descend with the stack when the stack is thinned, and a cover for said sheets adapted to normally rest on said stack and having downwardly projecting side flanges overlapping the sides of said stack and pivotally connected to said head plate, said cover having a notch adjacent said head plate to expose the sheet indicia When the cover is closed.
