The paste container 31 is moved with the roller 36 in such a manner that the pasting roller 36 is pressed against the cylinder 3 as the blank 34 is being carried past the roller, and as soon as the blank has been pasted, the paste holder 31 is moved away from the cylinder 3 with the pasting roller 36. The cylinder 3 is of such a large diameter, and the pasting mechanism 36, 31 is so arranged in front of the cylinder 3 that, when the blank 34 has been brought under the winding mandrel 2|, the blank 34 has left the pasting roller 36 (Fig. 1). At this moment the pasting mechanism 36, 31 is moved away from the cylinder 3. The paste container might be shiftable in guides instead of being oscillated. The whole machine is driven by a belt pulley 4|, driving shaft 40 with the cams mounted thereon and by transmission wheels 42, 43, 44 and 45. A drum, disc or even segments might be used instead of the cylinder 3, and these'might receive an oscillating instead of rotary movement. More than .two suction bars 6 might also be provided. The winding mandrel 2| may be of any cross-section and shape, that is might be cylindrical, polygonal or the like. When using winding mandrels rotating in a horizontal 'plane for example cylindrical or square mandrels the suction bars 6 may be arranged horizontally fixed on the bars l3. In this construction the guides l1 and I6 may be omitted.
I claim:
1. In a machine for producing paper tubes from blanks heaped up in a pile, a device for lifting the actually uppermost blank from the pile of blanks, pasting said blank and delivering said pasted blank to the machine for further treatment, said device comprising in combination a conveying element having two recesses in its outer surface, two suction bars one shiftably mounted in each of said recesses and each adapted to suckon the uppermost blank from the pile of blanks when the conveying element reaches and moves over said pile, a pasting roller in the path of movementiofsaid uppermost blank in close proximity to 'the surface of said conveying element and adapted to paste said blank during the rotation of said element, and a winding device adapted to wind said pasted blank, and means for success'ively moving one -of said bars outwards to deliver said pasted blank to said winding device at the moment the other bar is sucking a fresh blank from the pile.
2. In a machine as specified in claim 1, the means for shifting the suction bars comprising carrier bars carrying said suction bars, guides in the rotary element for said carrier bars, levers engaging said guides, and cams cooperating with said levers to rock said levers and radially shift said carrier bars and move said suction bars out of their recesses.
3..In a machine as specified in claim 1, the means for shifting the suction bars comprising carrier bars, each carrying one of said suction bars, guides for said carrier bars arranged in the rotary element, pins one projecting from each of said carrier bars, rocker levers having each a recess at one end adapted to engage one of said pins, and earns cooperating with the other end of said levers to oscillate said levers and to radially shift said carrier bars in said cylinder through the intermediary of said pins, and move said suction bars out of said recesses;
4. In a machine as specified in claim 1, the means for shifting the suction bars comprising carrier bars radially shiftable in the rotary con- I veyor element, means for radially shifting said carrier bars, pins pivotally connecting each of said suction bars to the outer end of one of-said carrier bars, retracting springs one connected to each of said suction bars on one side of its pivot pin, and tending to return said suction bars into their recesses, arms one projecting inwardly from each of said suction bars on the opposite side of its pivot pin to its spring, rollers one on the inner end of each of said arms, and guides in said cylinders in the path of said rollers during the radial displacement of said'carrier bars and adapted to control the movement of said suction bars through the intermediary of said arms.
5. In a machine as specified in claim 1, a pasting mechanism arranged near the periphery of "the rotary element between the pile and the paper working tool, said rotary element being of such diameter and said pasting mechanism being so arranged that the blank has'passed said pasting mechanism before delivering to said tool. 6. In a machine as specified in claim 1, a pasting mechanism arranged near the periphery of said rotary element between the pile and the paper working tool, and means for moving said mechanism alternately towards and away from said rotary element during the rotation of this of said uppermost blank in close proximity to the .surface of saidconveying element and adapted to paste said blank during the rotation of said element, and a winding device adapted to wind said pasted blank, and means for stopping said element after the pasting operation and for moving said bar outwards to deliver said pasted blank to said winding device.
