Description

March 28, 1939. K. GRUNERT COMPRESSOR, PUMP, AND THE LIKE Filed Feb. 19 1938 Patented Mari 28, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIQE Application February 19, 1938, Serial No. 191,543 In Norway February 19, 1937 1 Claim.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved compressor pump and the like for air and other fluid.
According to the invention the compressor is 5 provided with a double acting swinging piston oscillating within a piston casing and causing alternately vacuum and pressure in the spaces between the piston and the piston casing. Such spaces are connected by means of channels pro- 10 vided with suction valves with the suction side and by means of channels provided with pressure valves with the pressure side.
Other features of the invention will appear from the following description. 5 The drawing shows a sectional View of a preferred embodiment of the invention.
In the drawing I denotes a trough-shaped casing having a cover 2. In such casing a piston 3 is fulcrumed at the pivot 4. The piston 3 is'prog vided with a recess, which is circular at its lower end in order to receive an eccentric 6 fastened to the shaft 1. In the upper middle part of the cover 2 an opening 8 is arranged for letting in fluid, as an example air. In the piston, channels 25 I0, 10 are arranged having suction valves at 9, 9, the channels connecting the recess in the piston and consequently the suction side with the spaces H, l2 between the piston and the casing. Such spaces communicate by chan- 30 nels l3, I3 having pressure valves at M, lfl with receiving or collecting channels I5, l5 for compressed fluid.
The compressor operates as follows: If the eccentric 6 is turned from the position shown in the drawing in clockwise direction, the piston 3 is turned to the left about the axis of the pivot 4 and the air in the space H is compressed and forced through the channels l3 into the receiving channel I5. Simultaneously air 5 is passing into the casing through the inlet opening 8 and suction channel ill and the valve 9'. The piston 3 continues its motion, until its left side is contacting with the left hand wall of the casing and any air contained in the space H is 10 expelled. In continuing its motion the piston will be turned to the right, whereby air passes into the space ll through channels 8 and I0, and the air contained in the space i2 is compressed and expelled to receiving channel I5 through the channel I3.
I claim:
In a pump, a casing having curved inner walls, a double acting oscillating piston in said casing, said piston having curved pressure surfaces, the curvature of which corresponds to that of the inner wall of the casing, the piston having a central recess, the wall of the casing being provided with an inlet opening to the said recess of the piston; an eccentric in said recess, the piston having channels leading from the recess to the interior of the casing, suction valves for controlling the opening and closing of said channels, the casing walls having discharge channels extending outwardly from the inner part of the casing, and also having receiving channels and pressure valves connected with said discharge channels, for controlling the discharge channels.
