IMPROVEMENT'IN HOLDERS FOR PAPER BAGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 215,049, dated May 6, 1879 application filed August 29, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WM. H. DOUTY, of Shamokin, in the county of N orthumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Device for Holding Paper Bags to be used as wrappers; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View with the lid closed. Fig. 2 is a perspective view with the lid raised.
The object of my invention is to produce a receptacle for various sizes of paper bags used by merchants as wrappers; and it consists in a casing divided by removable partitions into compartments of various widths, having a platform, resting on acompressible spring upon the bottom of the-respective, compartments, and a hooked blade, for the purposes hereinafter described.
In order that those skilled in the'art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In the said drawings, A is a case or box, provided with a hinged lid, B, and a hook and eye, a a, to secure it down. At various distances the casing is scored or grooved on its interior back and bottom surfaces, as seen at O O O G, to receive a series of removable sliding partitions, D D, so that the case can be divided into compartments of varying widths at will.
In each compartmentis a platform, H, havin g attached to its under side a compressible spring, E, and provided at its inner end with ahole, h, through whichpassesa blade or sharp hook, I), fixed in the bottom of the casing and projecting upwardly. The paper bags are forced 011 this hook b, near their open ends, and it serves to prevent the withdrawal of more bags than one at a time. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- Theimproved paper-bag holder, consisting of the casing A, having a hinged cover, B, and provided with grooves G O O O and upwardly projecting blades b, in combination with the removable partitions D D and platforms H, provided with springs E E, all constructed and arranged as set forth.
