Description
G. PORSGHNER. Scale-Pan.
No. 214,643. Patented April 22, 1879.
@*'==-:lll i MPETERS, PHOTO LTHOGRAPHER WASHINGTON n c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES FORSOHNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCALE-PANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214,643, dated April 722, 1879; application tiled November 1, 1878.
T0 at Z whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES FORSCHNER, of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Scales, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in an improved construction for suspending the dish of the scales, substantially as hereinafter specified.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I represents a front view of my improved scaledish, partly in section. Fig. II is a top view of the same. Fig. III is a section at line 2 2, Fig. II.
A represents the scale-dish, made entire of glass. The central part of the dish proper is made slightly hollow, to retain better any article to be placed upon the same to be weighed, with a raised rim, (1, around the same.
B B are strong lugs or cars opposite each other, provided with two holes, a n, in each, to attach the metal bows or straps O G, by means of suitable nuts, to the dish. 1) represents the rods or chains to connect the upper end of the straps or bows O O to the scale-beam.
A glass dish is particularly adapted for weighing salts, acids, and similar articles,
which are more or less damaging to metal dishes, even when painted or glazed on their surfaces, and for butchers and other similar tradesmen, where the dish requires frequent cleaning to prevent the flavor of one article being communicated to the next article to be weighed.
The brittle nature of such a material as glass requires special means of support to insure strength and freedom from liability to break. This I effect by the broad lugs B B and double holes therein, to receive bows or double suspending-bails G C, and thereby obviate the necessity of a supporting cross-bar beneath the dish.
lVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A scale-dish, A, formed with extended lugs B B, each having two holes, a 11, through it, in combination with double suspendingbows O G, passingdown through the said holes and secured beneath the same, substantially as herein specified.
CHAS. FORSOHNER.
