5 Claims.
The present invention relates to lamps such as used for decorating Christmas trees and the like.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved construction and arrangement in lamps of this type, and for a consideration of what I believe to be novel and my invention attention is directed to the following description and the claims appended thereto.
In'the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a lamp embodying my invention; Fig. .2 is a sectional elevation of the lamp; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken through the tip of the star.
Referring to the drawing, the lamp casing comprises two star-shaped parts i of light transmitting material such as a molded artificial resin. The resin is preferably translucent so that it will diffuse the light from an electric light bulb within the casing and may be of any desired color. The
' in this figure, the abutting surfaces at each tip parts of the casing abut along the edges of the points of the star and are provided with inclined surfaces which flare outwardly from the abutting edges so that the parts of the casing intermediate the points are spaced apart providing space therebetween for enclosing an electric light bulb. The manner of securing the parts of the casing together is more clearly shown in Fig. 3. As shown of the star are provided with suitable recesses in which is non-rotatably held a nut 2. A cap 3 fits over the tip of the star and a screw 4 threaded through the cap into the nut 2 forces the cap tightly against the outer surface of the tip and thereby clamps the parts of the casing together. The caps 3 are made from the same v artificial resin as the star-shaped parts I so that "they are also light'transmitting. This prevents dark spots at the tips of the star. the star the screw is provided with a ring 5 by means of which the star may be hung. At the bottom of the star the parts of the casing are provided with bosses 6, the inner surfaces of which clamp a lamp socket I when the caps 3 are secured to the tips of the star. An electric light bulb 8 which is threaded into the socket provides a light source for the lamp. The bosses 6 locate the lamp socket in the proper position and also frictionally hold thelamp socket in this position.
7 the tree.
At the top of In the use of the lamp, the light from the electric light bulb 8 is diffused by the walls of the star-shaped parts I and by the caps 3, thereby providing a luminous star which is an attractive decoration.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In a lamp, a casing adapted to enclose an electric light bulb comprising two star-shaped parts of light transmitting material, said parts abutting at the points and being spaced apart intermediate the points, caps on the tips of the star, nuts non-rotatably held between the parts of the casing, and screws threaded through the caps into said nuts for clamping the parts of the casing together.
2. In a lamp, a casing adapted to enclose an electric light bulb comprising two star-shaped parts-of light transmitting material, said parts abutting at the points and being spaced apart intermediate the points, and means including caps of light transmitting material on the tips of the star for clamping the parts of the casing together.
3. In a lamp, a casing adapted to enclose an electric light bulb comprising two star-shaped parts of light transmitting material, said parts abutting at the points and being spaced apart intermediate the points, recesses in the abutting surfaces at the tips of the star, nuts non-rotatably held in said recesses, caps on the tips of the star, and screws cooperating with said caps and nuts for forcing the caps against the tips of the star and clamping the parts of the casing together.
4. In a lamp, a casing adapted to enclose an electric light bulb comprising two star-shaped parts of light transmitting materiaLsaid parts abutting at the points and being spaced apart intermediate the points, removable caps on the tips of the star for holding the parts of the casing together, and means cooperating with said caps and parts for holding said caps in their holding poistion.
5. In a lamp, a casing of light transmitting material comprising two star-shaped parts, said parts. abutting at the points and being spaced apart intermediate the points, removable caps on the tips of the star for holding the parts of the casing together, and means cooperating with said caps and parts for holding the caps in their holding position, the parts of the casing being when the caps are secured in place.
