3 Claims. (01. 68-135) The present invention relates to an improved a horizontally disposed cylinder closed at oppoclothes washing machine of the portable tub type site ends. The upper segment is cut away and provided with a suitable stand and rotary agifashioned into a framing IllIl ll having an intator means confined within the limits of the tub, wardly projecting ledge 12 to accommodate the and the purpose of the invention is to generally marginal supporting flange or lip 13 on the con- 5 improve upon structures of this general type, vex cover M. The cover is provided with an the principal novelty being predicated on the appropriate handle or hand grip IE to facilitate agitator construction. application and removal. In practice this is a As implied by the preceding opening staterelatively small domestic type washer to accomment, I am sufliciently conversant with the genmodate some 15 to gallons of fluid. 10 eral state of the prior art to realize that various The principal objective is to provide in a cylintypes of clothes washing machines have been drical tub of this type an ingenious fool-proof perfected and marketed, some being power o-pand safety-type agitator unit It. This is a metal erated and others hand operated to actuate the structure and is characterized by .a pair of seg- 15 internal water agitating and clothes pounder mental end or head plates ll having their apex 15 means. The tub, with the rebeen generally considered proper to use oscillamovable cover or lid I4 in place, is in the form of tory pounders and agitators. These are fre- 55 quently of the single bar or element type. Thus, the essential newness here is predicated upon a revolvable agitator wherein thebaflie or pounder members revolve through a complete. orbital path. Not only this, the pounders themselves are of such shape and arrangement as to avoid tearing of the contents of the tub and to at the same time insure safe and easy removal of dirt. I shall not, however, attempt to go into the commercial or scientific phases of the invention, for, persons skilled in the art to which the structure relates are well posted on these phases.
It is thought that the description taken in connection with the drawings will enable a clear understanding of the invention to be had. Therefore, a more lengthy description is thought unnecessary.
While the preferred embodiment of the in.
vention has been shown and described, it is to be understood that minor changes coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to if desired.
I claim:
1. A clothes washing machine of the class described comprising a relatively fixed tub, said tub being of cylindrical cross-sectional form, and an agitator mounted for rotation in said tub, said agitator embodying segmental end plates, and pounder members supported between the outer peripheral edge portions of said plates, said pounder members being spaced apart and each member being of substantially triangular shape in cross section, with one wall located adjacent the inner circumference of the tub, and said wall having transverse slots therein, another wall having openings therein and the third Wall being imperforate, and each pounder member being of hollow construction.
2. As a component part of a washing machine of the class described, an agitator unit comprising an elongated pounding element of triangular shape in cross-sectional form and hollow, the outer wall of the element being formed with longitudinally spaced transversely disposed slots and one of the other walls being provided with a, multiplicity of orifices.
3. As a component part of a clothes washing machine of the class described, an agitator unit comprising a pair of end plates adapted for rotatable mounting in a clothes and water containing tub, and a pair of duplicate agitating and pounding members supported between said plates, said pounding members being spaced apart and having their ends connected with the plates and each member being of triangular shape in cross section and of hollow construction, that wall of each member adjacent the'tub having transverse slots therein, that wall which faces the other pounding member being imperforate, and the third wall having perforations therein.
