3 Claims. (01. 20-1.11)
This invention relates to an interior building construction arranged with a view to economizing space and at the same time securing the desired privacy for occupants of different compartments.
The invention maybe incorporated into a variety of building structu'res. One of the most advantageous uses therefor is for the interior constructions of house trailers; also for beach' or mountain cabins and any other small portable buildings for dwelling purposes in which it is desirable to condense housing conveniences into a small space.
More particularly the invention is intended to provide an improved arrangement of a toilet room whereby the toilet is made conveniently accessible to a number of adjacent compartments and yet a door or closure means is provided for the toilet which efiiciently secludes it' from the adjoining rooms.
The invention further relates to an improved mounting means and hinge construction for a door in a building construction whereby said door is allowed to swing through a wider angular range and is related in a superior manner to a plurality of door openings.
Other objects, advantages and features of the invention will hereinafter appear.
Referring to the accompanying drawing which illustrates what is at present deemed to be a preferred embodiment of the invention,
Fig. 1 is a horizontal sectional view of a building structure constructed according to the invention, the toilet door beingshown in one position in full lines and in other positions in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional detail taken on a horizontal plane near the bottom of the toilet door structure to illustrate the hinge structure thereof.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the compartments to which the invention more directly pertains are the toilet room l0, bedroom II and kitchen l2 and a hallway [3. The partition HI forms the innermost wall of the toilet and its outer end provides a support for the toilet door l5 which is mounted upon the edge of said partition by a special hinge construction IS in order that said toilet door may swing through an angle of 270 degrees.
Within the interior corner portion of the toilet room I0 is a toilet bowl I! which is located at a 66 lower level than a wash bowl l8 that is mounted upon the inner side of the toilet door IS in order that, when said toilet door is swung to the limit of its clockwise movement, the wash bowl carried thereby will clear the toilet bowl by passing above it. Said wash bowl is furnished with a discharge 5 hose I87; to discharge its contents in any suitable situation or receptacle.
The hallway [3, in combination with the rooms with which it cooperates, is an important feature of the invention. Said hallway is provided at 10 one end with an outside entrance l9 and when the invention is used in a house trailer construction a folding step 20 is preferably provided below said entrance and said step may be operatively connected with the door 2| in order to 15 cause the opening movement of the door to extend said step and the closing movement of the door to fold up said step. The hallway l3 communicates with the bedroom ll through the doorway 22 and a sliding door 23 is provided to 20 open and close said doorway 22. Communicating with the bedroom H through an opening 24 is a wardrobe 25. The door 23 is slidably supported upon the partition section 26 in order that said door may be utilized either to close the doorway 25 22 between the hall and the bedroom or the doorway 24 between the wardrobe and the bedroom. When the doorway 22 is open the bedroom H has a more spacious appearance.
A linen cabinet 30 is also provided adjacent to 30 the wardrobe 25, said cabinet having a door M which opens or closes communication between the adjacent end of the hallway l3.
A shower fixture 35 is shown attached to the partition M near the toilet bowl ll. Said shower 35 is furnished with a drain pipe 36 leading to a suitable receptacle 31.
In Figs. 3 and 4 is shown the hinge mounting of the toilet door whereby said door is capacitated for swinging through three-quarters of a 40 circumference, as illustrated in Fig. 1. This arrangement consisting of a lower hinge pin 40 having itsbearing in the floor F, a bushing 4| being provided for said pin. The pin may be part of a casting 42 which is secured to the lower 45 edge of the door by screws 43. It is to be understood that the upper edge portions of the door l5 will be pivoted to the ceiling in the same manner as is shown in Fig. 4.
It will be noted that in the building construc- 60 tion provided by this invention, notwithstanding its space economizing nature. a hallway is provided between the kitchen and toilet, thus conforming to good taste and sanitary considerations. Furthermore, the toilet door may be posi-.
tioned athwart said hallway, where it conceals its rear portion from persons entering from outside to use the toilet.
The hallway l3 extends from the compartventing outsiders who may desire to enter through'door 2| and use the toilet, from seeing into the rooms in communication with the inner portion of the hallway.
I claim:
1. In a building construction, a toilet room and adjoining hallway which considered together cover an L-shaped floor space, said toilet occupying the projecting portion of one limb of the L, a kitchen occupying the inner angle of the L, a third room occupying the space at the opposite side of the limb of the L which is occupied by said hallway, there being doorways for persons using said third room and kitchen which lead into opposite sides of the portion of the hallway between them, and a toilet door hinged at the inner angle of said L to swing from a position wherein it closes the toilet doorway through a position wherein it divides the hallway into two sections to a position for closing the doorway between said kitchen and said hallway and a sumcient distance beyond the latter door opening to afford a passage from said kitchen through said hallway into said toilet room.
2. In a building structure 01 the kind described, a toilet room having a door opening for the passage 01 persons using the building, a door hinged to one side of said opening to form a closure therefor, said door having a wash bowl mounted upon its inner side. and a hallway oommunicating with said toilet doorway, said door being swingable to an open position wherein access is had to said wash bowl from said hallway.
3. In a building construction, a toilet mom,
said toilet room having a door'opening, and a door pivotally mounted at one edge of said door opening and swingable through substantially a three quarter circumierence, said door controlling a plurality of doorways adapted for the passage (:'-:'persons using the building, thereby when at the limit of its open swinging movement atfording access to said toilet room from a plurality of compartments adjacent thereto.
