PATENT ()FFICE.
ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO GEORGE G. SKIDMORE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR DISPENSING AERATED BEVERAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 213,980, dated April 8, 1879; application filed February 10, 1879.
tion of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
This invention has relation to apparatus for dispensing soda-water or other aerated beverages.
Previous to my invention the apparatus heretofore used was constructed of marble, slate, stone, or other similar material.
The great objection to the apparatus formed of the above material was the danger of their becoming broken or otherwise injured during transportation, requiring great care in packing them to prevent the possibility of their being injured.
Another objection, which is considered a very important one, was the great expense attending their manufacture, also the material from which they are made, adding materially to the cost.
It is the object or purpose of the present invention to provide a soda apparatus that will possess durability and strength, and that can be manufactured at a greatly-reduced cost, having the same general appearance of marble or other stone.
The invention, therefore, consists in a soda apparatus composed of metal having a finish upon its exterior to represent the various kinds of marble, or a similar ornamental-finish design, as will be hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents a soda apparatus constructed of metal, as shown at a, and afterward finished in imitation of the various kinds of marble, as shown atbc.
The apparatus may be composed of sheet metal, and afterward connected together by solder, or other means may be employed to join the diflerent sheets of metal together to form the apparatus; but I prefer the apparatus to be constructed of cast metal, as bein g more durable and less liable to become indented or otherwise injured.
The apparatus A may be of any suitable form and size, and, if desired, have ornamental panels upon one or more of its sides.
The apparatus is provided with the usual openings for the waste-pipe to carry off the melted ice, and for the draft-pipes from the fountain beneath the counter, and the draftfaucets; also, a filling of non-heat-conducting substance may be interposed between the walls of the apparatus A and the inner zinc box, and, although I have described my invention as being applied to a soda apparatus, it is evident that it is equally applicable to all or any apparatus used for the purpose of dispensing aerated or other beverages, and may be applied to such apparatus without departing from the principle of my invention; and it will be fully understood that the particular design, size, and shape of the apparatus, number of draft 'tubes or faucets, also number of sirup-faucets,
are left optional to the builder or manufacturer.
The non-heat-conducting substance may be composed of charcoal or any other well-known substance that will avoid the sweating or absorbin g of the moisture in the atmosphere, and keep the beverage cooler and more palatable.
The apparatus, as I have previously stated, may be of sheet or cast metal. I also wish it understood that I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to any particular metal used, as, for instance, brass, copper, steel, or any other well-known metals may be used in sheet form or cast as desired.
An apparatus constructed of metal and marbleized is not only more durable, less liable to injury by breakage, or to become stained by the use of acids than the apparatus composed of marble or stone, but is materially cheaper to manufacture, being produced at so much less cost that it will be a great saving to the user or consumer.
Another important advantage of an apparatus constructed according to my invention is the decreased cost in its shipment or transportation from the manufacturer to the user or As a new article of manufacture, an apparatus for dispensing aerated or other beverages, constructed of metal, and having its exterior surface marbleized, as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
C. JOSEPH DIETRIOH.
