Description
F. M. GREEN Oct. 18, 1938.
stun-r Filed 001:. 7, 1936 Patented Oct. 1 8, 1938 UNITED" STATES PATENT oFFmE snm'r Frederick M. Green, Sacramento, cam. Application October 1, iosafsemi No. 104,549
. 1 Claim. (01. 2-100) This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in shirts. I
The primary object of the invention is to provide a shirt especially designed for hot weather use, the same being a garment for men and of the usual coat type with the tail cut off or eliminated .with the lower end of the shirt terminating at the waist line and eliminatingthe uncomfortable feature of the tail of the shirt-being confined witho in the upper or hip portions of trousers.
A further object of the invention is to provide a shirt of the foregoing character wherein straps or belt loops'are carried by the lower end of the shirt with the loops projecting below the lower it end of the shirt so that when a belt is inserted through the loops, the lower end of the shirt will be hidden by the belt and will present the general appearance of a shirt having the lower endthereof received in the hip portions of trousers.
It isa further object of the invention to provide a tailless shirt carrying beit guides or loops at its lower end for the insertion of a waist belt positioned entirely exteriorly of the upper ends of trousers and being free of connection therewith and also free of connection with suspenders that may be worn interiorly of the shirt and engaged with the waist band of the trousers.
Another advantage of this shirt is the ease with which this design may be applied to the ordinary shirt as now manufactured-and carried in stock. With each shirt sold could be supplied a facing band with loops attached, made of the same material as the shirt or of any other desired material.
The facing band would be cut of! to suit the waist measure of the wearer. The shirt would be cut off to suit the under-arm, back and front measurements of the wearer and the facing band with its loops could then be stitched to the bottom of the shirt, the shirt being gathered and/or tucked at the facing band thus completing the garment substantially as described.
In the drawing: a
Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevational view 5 of a shirt constructed in accordance with the present invention and illustrating the waist belt extending through guide loops at the lower endof the shirt projecting below the lower end of the shirt to hide the same from view, suspenders for the trousers being illustrated in dotted lines interiorly of the shirt and entirely free thereof;
Figure 2 is afragmentary rar elevational view;-
and
rigure3isanenlargeddetailsectionalview 66 takenonlineHofrlgureLshowingtheguide loops for the belt and the belt projecting below the lower edge of the shirt and the shirt being entirely free of the connection between the trousers and suspenders.
The shirt may be of any designpreferred, the 5 7 same being illustrated as of the coat type and embodying a body portion 5, the shirt being of waist line length with the usual tail eliminated, the
lower end of the shirt body 5 being provided with a facing band 6 at the outer side thereof. Belt 10 guide loops 1 are carried by the facing band 6 of the shirt, the upper end 8 of the guide loop being confined and stitched between the shirt and the upper edge of the facing band 6, the lower end 9 of the guide loop extending below the lower edge 15 of the shirt 5 with the upper free edge of thelower end of the guide loop stitched between the shirt and the lower edge of the facing band.
When the shirt is on a wearer, the lower faced edge 6 overlaps the upper edge' or waist band of 20 the trousers II and is entirelyfree of connec-. tion with the trousers, the latter being supported by suspenders l2 engaged with buttons [3 at the inner side of the waistband of the trousers, so that the lower edge of the shirt 5 is freeto move 25 relative to the waist band of the trousers. A belt it including the usual buckle- I5 is inserted through the belt guide loops 1 and is intended only for the purpose of completing the waist-line appearance of'the garment, the trousers ll be- 30 ing normally supported by the suspenders l2. The lower edge of the facing band 6 of the shirt is hidden by the belt II that extends below the lower end of the shirt and gives the impression of an ordinary shirt comprising a tafl that is housed 5 within the hip portions of the trousers. The belt ll may be tightened to a degree suiiicient'to retain the lower edge of waist line of the shirt correctly positioned relative to the waist line of the trousers. A shirt of this character is especially o serviceable in hot weather as there is a greater opportunity of the circulation of air inwardly I of the shirt and the uncomfortable features of the shirt tail eliminated.
While there is herein shown and described the 46 preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
