Description

Oct. 11, 1938. K. BISCHOFF ET AL UNITARY ROENTGEN APPARATUS (Made/2504 5 Filed Aug. 25, 19156 Patented Oct. 11, 1938 I 2,132,673
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE I UNITARY ROENTGEN APPARATUS Kurt Bischofi, Alterlangen, near Erlangen, Carl Niemann, Buckenhof, near Erlangen, and Hans Wiinsch, Erlangen, Germany, assignors to the firm Siemens-Reiniger-Werke Aktiengesellschaft, Berlin, Germany Application August 25, 1936, Serial No. 97,774
' In Germany August 26, 1935 Claims. (Cl. 250-34) Our invention relates to Roentgen apparatus former wherein the ring-like secondary winding and is more specifically concerned with a novel is taped and the iron core grounded in usual and improved unitary structure wherein the manner causes difficulties because one pole of Roentgen tube, the high tension transformer the high tension transformer must be electrically ,6 and the heating transformer, which is spaced connected with the heating winding. This contherefrom and connected to high tension, are nection as such would have to be taped also. provided in a common housing and wherein the According to the invention, the resulting diffisecondary winding of these separately placed and culties, as intimated above, can be greatly respaced transformers are united by a common induced and the taping can be considerably simplisulating means to form a unitary and common fied by connecting through a common insulating if structure. bandage or tape the secondary winding of the A brief review of the reasoning underlying our heating transformer, and at least that part of invention with reference to the prior art is its iron core surrounded thereby, with the secrendered below so that its various objects and ondary winding of the separately disposed high advantages will be readily understood. tension transformer to form a unitary structure i=1 It is the aim in structures such as noted above, therewith. Inasmuch as the high tensionnamely, in Roentgen apparatus wherein the carrying taped part of the heating transformer Roentgen tube, the high tension transformer and forms then a unit with the secondary winding also the heating transformer connected to high of the high tension transformer through the tension are provided in a common housing, to common taping, we obtain the same advantage ".0 keep the weight and the dimensions of the apthat results in apparatus wherein the heating paratus as small as possible. In order to realize winding is provided directly upon the iron core this aim, the secondary" winding of the high of the high tension transformer. The Roentgen tension transformer is provided with an insulattube tension and current can also be separately ing means, e. g., a suitable bandage or taping, regulated.
and the conductor means leading from the high The invention will be better understood from tension transformer to the Roentgen tube, and the detailed description which is rendered below in certain instances parts of the tube, are also with reference to the accompanying drawing, insulated against the grounded wall of the houswherein ing by an insulating provision which may be Fig. 1 shows one embodiment of our invention 30 a bandage consisting of paper tape. in schematic representation; and
It may be mentioned at this point that the Fig. 2 illustrates a modification. terms insulating bandage or insulating tape Like parts are designated by like reference nuor taping"- and equivalent language, as used merals throughout the drawing.
35 herein, are intended to convey insulating means Referring, now, to Fig. l, numeral l indicates J35 wrapped around or provided on the respective the grounded housing or casing containing the parts in a suitable manner so as to form thereon Roentgen tube 2 with its anode grounded as an insulating layer or layers or an insulating shown, the high tension transformer with its covering of a sort which is suitable for the purprimary winding 3, secondary winding 4 and 40 pose in view. These terms are, therefore, not the iron core 5. The secondary winding 4 is in 40 used to indicate undue limitations. In their sulated by means of paper taping 6 which also broadest sense they should be construed simply surrounds the conductor means 1 leading to the as denoting insulating means, regardless of the Roentgen tube 2. The secondary winding 8 of specific material of which this means consists the separately placed open core heating transandthe manner in which it is applied. Paper former is included in the common taping 6 to- .45 is mentioned herein for an insulating material, gether with its iron core 9 which is electrically but other materials may be used if desired. connected with the secondary winding 8. The

heating winding directly upon the iron core of If required, the iron core 9 may be continued 50 the high tension transformer. This is, however, outside of the taping, resulting in a heating impossible, for example, in apparatus of contransformer with an almost closed iron core. siderable output, wherein a separate regulation In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 the taped of the Roentgen tube tension and current is repart of the heating transformer forms a proquired. The placing of aseparate heating transtuberance on the common insulating taping 6 55 in such a manner that the primary winding [0 of the heating transformer can be directly slipped into position upon the taped part of the structure, from the outside thereof. Other parts in Fig. 2 correspond to like parts discussed in connection with Fig. 1.
It will be seen from the foregoing that we have provided a structure in accordance with our invention wherein the high tension transformer is separately disposed at a distance from or is spaced from the heating transformer while both are disposed in a common housing, as shown, The secondary winding of the high tension transformer and the secondary winding of the heating transformer are united by a common insulating means to form a unit. A separate adjustment or independent adjustment or regulation of the high tension and of the tube current, respectively, is thus possible.
Attention is called to the fact that we have shown only the relevant details of the apparatus for the, sake of convenience and simplicity of description. It is understood, of course, that matter known in connection with such apparatus, but for thenoted reasons omitted herein, is considered to be part of the disclosure.
Specific embodiments have been shown in order to teach others how the invention may be used in practice. However changes and modifications are possible within the scope and spirit of the invention, and we have therefore particularly defined in the following claims what is considered new and desired to have protected by Letters Patent of the United States;
