With such a construction, the button and trousers are attached directly to the webbing and the button is free to move vertically in the slits I5, thus avoiding a tearing strain on the shirt l0.

Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention. For instance, the form of Figures 5 and 6 may be employed. This form accords with the preceding one with the exception that two slits l5 are provided through the shirt In in lieu of the single vertical slit 15. In this construction, the buttons are placed through the selected slits l5 and then engaged with the button-holes l4 in the rear thereof and carried by elastic strips or webbing l2, stitched or otherwise secured as at l3 to the inner surface of the shirt.

I claim as my invention:-

1. A shirt having elastic material in pairs attached to the inner surface thereof at the back and sides, said material having button-holes therethrough, and the shirt having slits extending completely through the fabric in line with the button-holes and of greater vertical extent than the button-holes to enable a button passing therethrough to move relatively to the shirt without straining the latter.

2. A shirt having strips stitched to the inner surface thereof, said strips having button-holes therethrough, and the shirt in line with said button-holes having slits extending completely through the fabric thereof of greater length than the button-holes for the purpose specified, said strips being of elastic material.

3. A shirt having strips stitched to the inner surface thereof, said strips each having a plurality of button-holes therethrough, and the shirt in line with said button-holes having longitudinal slits of greater length than the buttonholes for the purpose specified said strips being of elastic material, and each slit of the shirt being continuous across a plurality of such buttonholes of the adjacent strip.
