This invention relates to a measuring dispenser. andv it is primarily an object of the invention to provide a device or structure of this kind which. as a result of conventional tipping or overturning manipulations of the carton or container, permits the discharge of the contents of the carton or container in predetermined bulk or desiredquantity.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a measuring dispenser which provides for the discharge in predetermined bulk or desired quantity the contents of a carton or container yet when such carton or container is in a certain position or adjustment permitting the'discharge of a lesser quantity.
The invention'also has for an object to provide a measuring dispenser wherein the salient fea-- tures are housed within the carton or container and wherein the structure is such as to eliminate the use of any mechanically operated parts.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrange- V ment of the several parts of my improved measuring dispenser whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, whereinz- Figure 1 is a view in plan of a blank from which is produced a container having a measuring dispenser constructed in accordancewith an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through an assembled container and measuring dispenser constructed fromthe blank as illustrated in Figure 1;

closed together with the steps after discharge for refilling the measuring dispenser for a subsequent delivery.
In the embodiment of my invention as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, the measuring dispenser 5 is a part of the carton or container and the measuring dispenser proper is comprised in the one blank from which the container and measuring dispenser are produced as a unit.
As illustrated in Figure 1, A denotes what may be termed the front wall or panel of the carton cr-container and B a rear wall. Interposed between the walls or faces A and B and separated therefrom by the score lines I is a side wall S and separated from the wall A. by the score line 2 is a 15 second side wall W. The outer marginal portion of this side wall W is continued therealong with a relatively short tab 3 separated from the side wall W by the score line 4 parallel with the score line 2 hereinbefore referred to. Separated from the wall W by the score lines 5 extending transversely thereof are the end panels E. The score lines 5 are continued by the score lines 6 extending transversely across the side wall S and these score lines 6 in turn are continued by the score lines 1 extending transversely across the wall B.
The score lines 1 separate from the wall B the end flaps F.
The score lines 6 separate from the side wall S the end tabs 8 and 9. The side marginal portion of the tab 9 is cut on the lines III to provide a tab ii at the inner end of the adjacent flap F and which tab ii is separated from the flap F by as core line i2 extending transversely of the flap F. The tab 8 is extended by the tab it oi desired length but of a width substantially equal to the width of the side wall 8. The longitudinal margins of the tab I l are separated by the score lines I! from the flaps l6. These flaps iii in plan are substantially V-shaped in form with their apices outwardly disposed. These flaps l6 also extend entirely along the flap I with the inner inclined edges l1 terminating at the junction of the score lines I 5 and the score line it separating the tabs 9 and it. The outer inclined edges I! of the flaps i6 terminate at desired points outwardly and laterally from the score lines l5 whereby the flaps It at their outer ends are provided with relatively short edges 20, the length of which determining the width of, the receiving opening for the dispensing structure as will hereinafter appear.
The score lines 5 are also continued by the score lines 2| which extend across the side wall W and separate the same from the tabs 22 and 23. The ll.
outer portion of the tab 23 is separated by the transversely disposed score line 24 from an end fiap 2!, and the extremities of the flap 2! are separated by the transversely disposed score lines 23 from the outstanding wings 21 aligned with each other and with the fiap 28.
The tabs 8 and 22 are of substantially the same length and the combinedlengths of the tab, 23 and flap 2 are substantially equal to the combined lengthsof the tabs 3 and i4.
In producing a container and measuring dispenser from the blank as illustrated in Figure 1,
the tab 3 is folded on the line 3 to overlie the inner face of the wall S andthe tab I4 is folded upwardly on the line It and the fiaps l6 folded inwardly on the lines llin a direction toward the wall 8. The flaps it are adjusted with their apices registering with the Junctions of the score lines I and I and and I whereupon the walls A and B are swung one toward the other along the lines I. The fiaps l3 are then adhesively secured to the inner faces of the walls A and B. To provide for this securement the proper faces of the flaps |l have disposed thereover a lamination of glue or other adhesive material or, if preferred, the desired adhesive or cementitious material may be applied to the flaps l8 at the time of assembly.
The side wall W is then properly folded on the line 2 so that the flap 3 may be adhesively or otherwise secured to the opposed faces of the walls S and W. The straight edges 20 of the fiaps I8 provide'an entrance opening for the contents of the completed container within the dispensing device as is more particularly illustrated in Figure 2. The tab 23 is then folded inwardly between the spaced walls S and W until this tab 23 assumes a position substantially flush with the adjacent ends of the walls A and Has determined by the score lines 9 and I. The flap 25 is then flexed inwardly on the line 24 substantially at right angles to the tab 23 and the wings 21 are folded on the lines 28 to extend forwardly of and substantially 'at right angles to the flap 25 and adhesively or otherwise secured to the adjacent comer faces of the walls A and B. By this means is provided a discharge spout closely adjacent to the side wall S. The tab F is then foldedinwardly into closed position on the score line I and the flap folded downwardly on the score line |2 for adhesive connection to an adjacent portion of the wall S. The flap E is then folded on the line over the folded fiap F and adhesively or otherwise secured thereto. The flap N indicates the portion of the closed end which is to be lifted into open position to permit discharge of material out through the discharge spout. The flaps E and F at the end portions of the walls A and B remote from the measuring dispenser structure are folded on their respective lines 8, 3, I and 2| to close said end of the box.
Figures 5 to 11 inclusive illustrate the, various successive steps in discharging the contents from within the container C. These figures are diagrammatic in character and the discharge spout is indicated at a and the measuring pocket at b. In Figure 5 the container is in an upright position with a predetermined quantity of the contents of the container C in the pocket b. As the container 0 is tipped over, as shown in Figure 6, to the horizontal position as illustrated in Figure 7, no discharge of the contents is obtained but as the container is moved to an inverted inclined position as illustrated in Figure 8 the contents of the container within the measuring pocket will discharge out through the spout a. This pouring action will continue until the container C assumes a substantially vertical inverted position as illustrated in Figure 9. At this time the content of the container drops to the then bottom portion of the container but will not continue to flow out through the spout b. However, as the container 0 is again moved into substantially a horizontal position as illustrated in Figure and then returned to its vertical position as indicated in Figure 11, the measuring pocket b will be refilled. It is believed to be obvious that Just so long as there is any material within the container C a supply can be delivered within the measuring pocket b.
It is to be stated, however, that with the container C in the horizontal position as illustrated in both Figures 7 and 10, a small amount of the contents may be discharged by slightly shaking the carton.-
In the embodiment of the invention as illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, the measuringdispenser is constructed as a separate unit but is positioned within the carton to function in the same manner as the measuring dispenser comprised'in the first embodiment of my invention. In the structure as illustrated in Figures 3 and 4 the measuring dispenser comprises an elongated narrow sheet of material having extending transversely thereacross at approximately its longitudinal center a score line 29 whereby is provided two walls 33 and 3|. The wall 30 is sepa-- rated by the longitudinally disposed score lines 32 from the substantially V-shaped flaps 33 of a configuration substantially the same as the form of the flaps I8 hereinbefore referred to.
The wall 3| at one side thereof is provided with a flap 34 separated from the wall 3| by the score line 35. The inner portion of the wall 3| at the opposite side thereof is provided with the relatively small flap 38 separated from the wall 3| by the score line 31. This score line 31 extends to the outer end of the wall 3| and the outer portionof such score line separates from the wall 3| the relatively narrow side wall 38 which is continued by a spout wall 39 separated from the side wall 38 by a score line 40. This spout wall 39 is of a width substantially the same as the width of L the wall 3| and the outer or free end portion of the wall 39 is continued by a flap 4| separated from the wall 39 bya score line 42. The upper or top marginal portion of the wall 39 is continued by a hood wall 43 separated from the spout wall 39 by the score line 44. Extending outwardly from the sides of the hood wall 43 are the flaps 45 separated from the hood wall 43 by the score lines 46.
In assembling the measuring dispenser as illustrated in blank in Figure 3, the wall 38 is folded on the score line 31 to a position substantially at right angles to the wall 3| and the spout wall 39 is folded on the line 40 to extend transversely of the wall 3| and the flap 4| is folded on the line 42 substantially at right angles to the wall 39 and adhesively secured to the upper or outer portion of the flap 34 whereby a desired discharge spout is provided. It is, however, to be understood that the flap 34 is suitably folded on the line 35 and the flap 36 suitably folded on the line 31 to permit such fiaps to be adhesively secured to the side walls 41 of the carton or container in which the measuring dispenser is placed.

It is to be noted that the inner edges 50 of the flaps 45 are on such bevelas to have close or butting contact with the straight edges 5| at the outer. ends of the flaps I33 and which straight edges by their length determine the width of the entrance to the pocket of the measuring dispenser.
It is believed to be obvious that when it is desired to empty the contents of the carton or container that portion of the closing flaps or lid over the spout is suitably raised.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a measuring dispenser constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be ob-v vious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
1. A measuring dispenser adapted to be housed within a container adjacent to an end corner thereof comprising two walls, one of said walls being for attachment to a wall of the container and the other wall being upwardly and inwardly inclined to provide a receiving pocket, side flaps carried by the second wall, each oi said side flaps being substantially in the form of a V with its apex outwardly disposed, each of said flaps extending entirely along its wall with the outer end of the flap terminating in a straight edge substantially at right angles to the wall, said side flaps being disposed toward the first wall and adapted for securement to adjacent walls of the container, the length of the straight edges of the flaps determining the width of the entrance to the pocket, and a strip bridging the space between the fiaps at the upper portion thereof at points spaced from the first wall to provide a discharge spout.
2. A measuring dispenser adapted to be housed within a container adjacent to an end corner thereof comprising two walls, one of said walls being for attachment to a wall of the container and the other wall being upwardly and inwardly inclined to provide a receiving pocket, side flaps carried by the second wall, each of said side flaps being substantially in the form of a V with its apex outwardly disposed, each of said flaps extending entirely along its wall with the outer end of the flap terminating in a straight edge'substantially at right angles to the wall, said side flaps being disposed toward the first wall and adapted for securementto adjacent walls of the container, the length of the straight edges of the flaps determining the width of the entrance to the pocket, and a strip bridging the space between the flaps at the upper portion thereof at points spaced from the first wall to provide a discharge spout, said discharge spout extending within the pocket to a point below the entrance to the pocket.

A container having front and back walls, side walls and end walls, a tab carried by the extremity of one of the side walls and folded to overlie said side wall, said tab being continued by a second tab folded to extend inwardly and outwardly with respect to the container, said second tab being provided therealong with side flaps substantially v-shaped in form with their apices outwardly disposed, the inner edges of the flaps determining the angle of inclination of the second tab, the outer ends of the flaps having straight edges substantially at right angles to the second tab, the outer inclined edges of the flaps being substantially flush with the adjacent end of the container, the straight edges of the flaps determining the width of the entrance to the pocket provided by the folded tabs and flaps, a tab carried by an extremity of the second side wall and of a length to extend along the adjacent end of the container and partially overlie the top of the pocket, and a flap carried by the extremity of the last named tab above the pocket and extending within the pocket, said last named flap coasting with the first mentioned tab to provide a discharge spout. I

A container having front and back walls, side walls and end walls, a tab carried by the extremity of one of the side walls and folded to overlie said side wall, said tab being continued by a second tab folded to extend inwardly and outwardly with respect to the container, said second tab being provided therealong with side flaps substantially ii-shaped in form with their apices outwardly disposed, the inner edges of the flaps determining the angle of inclination of the second tab, the outer ends of the flaps having straight edges substantially at right angles to the second tab, the outer inclined edges of the flaps being substantially flush with the adjacent end of the container, the straight edges of the flaps determining the width of the entrance oi the pocket provided by the folded tabs and flaps, a tab carried by an extremity of the second side wall and oi a length to extend along the adjacent end of the container and partially overlie the top of the pocket, a flap carried by the extremity of the last named tab above the pocket and extending within the pocket, said last named flap coacting with the first mentioned tab to provide a discharge spout, and means carried by the last named flap for securing the same to the first named flap.
5. A measuring dispenser for placement within a container comprising two walls, one of said walls being inwardly and outwardly inclined with respect to the other walls, the side margins of the inclined wall having disposed therealong substantially V-shaped flaps at right angles to the wall, the apices of the flaps being outwardly disposed and the outer ends oi; the flaps having straight edges at right angles to the wall, securing means carried by the marginal portions of the second wall, a side flap carried by the outer spout.
6. A measuring dispenser for placement within a container comprising two walls, one of said walls being inwardly and outwardly inclined with respect to the other wall, the side margins of the inclined wall having disposed therealong substantially V-shaped flaps at right angles to the wall, the spices oi the flaps being outwardly disposed and the outer ends or the flaps having straight edges at right angles to the wall, securing means carried by the marginal portions of the second wall, a side flap carried by the outer portion of the second wall at one side thereof, a strip connected at one end to said last named flap and disposed transversely across the adjacent outer end portion 01' the second wall, an attaching means carried by the outer end portion of said cross strip, said cross strip coacting with the second named wall to provide a discharge spout, and a hood wall carried by the outer longitudinal margin of the cross strip to engage an applied closure for the container, said hood wall having end flaps to engage the side walls of the container in which the measuring dispenser is placed.
