The object of the invention is the production of a separator, by means of which snap fasteners can be easily and instantly separated from a card to which they are detachably connected.
The second object of the invention is the production of a separator, having separator jaws thatcan be easily inserted between the head of a snap fastener and the card to which said fastener is detachably connected to separate said head from the pin of the back of the fastener.
The third object of the invention is the pro duction of a separator, which contains an inclined separator plate, adapted to contact with the head of the pin of the back of a snap fastener, to force down said pin, to separate the back of the fastener from the card to which it is attached.
In the accompanying drawing Fig. 1 represents the top plan View of a card with a plurality of snap fasteners connected thereto and a top plan View of the separator; Fig 2 shows an enlarged section of Fig. 1 on the line 2, 2; Fig. 3 indicates an enlarged section of Fig. 1 on the line 3, 3; Fig. 4 represents a View similar to Fig. 1 with a top plan View of a modified separator and Fig. 5 indicates an enlarged section of Fig. 4 on the line 5, 5.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 a rectangular support or card 20, which may be of heavy paper or of other material, is indicated with a plurality of holes 2|, the centers of which are located on the circumference of a circle. A hole 22 is pierced through the said card 20 at the center of said circle. Through each of the holes 2| can extend the pin 25 of the back 26 of a snap fastener. The head of the fastener is indicated at 28, which is snapped on the pin 25, with the card 2l) between the said back and head of the snap fastener.
The separator comprises the arm 32 from one end of which extends the journal sleeve 33 having the flange 34 at its lower end. The lower face of the arm 32 bears on the top face of the card 26 and the upper face of the ange 34 bears against the lower face of said card. At the other end of the arm 32 is indicated at right angles to its longitudinal axis the pair of separator jaws 35, having the rear body portion 36. Extending 5o up from the inner edges of the said jaws is indicated a pair of inclined separator projections 3l, which are semi-circular in cross section, as indicated in Fig. 2. At the rear of the said projections is indicated the inclined separator plate 40, which extends up from the said rear body portion 36 and meets the projections 31 at their rear ends. A pusher plate 4I extends up from the said body portion 36 and is indicated -at right angles thereto.
Referring to Figs. 4 and 5, which show the modified separator, the rectangular card is indi--A cated at 20a with a plurality of holes 2| on-the' circumference of a circle with the center hole 22. Or the holes through the said card 20a may be positioned in parallel rows as indicated at 22a, or the holes 22a may be distributed in any suitable manner. Adjacent to one end of the card 20a are cut two pairs of slits 23, to form the clamping loops 24, which can be pressed up from the body of the card.
As already described, through each of the holes 2l or 22a can extend the pin 25 of the back 26 of the snap fastener. The head of the snap fastener is again indicated at 28 and is snapped on the pin 25 with the card 20a between the back and head of the snap fastener.
The body of the modified separator comprises the arm 52, one end of which is bent up, to form the pusher handle or plate 53. At the other end of the arm 52 is indicated the pair of separator jaws 55 similar to 35, having the rear body portion 56. The jaws 55 are parallel to the longitudinal axis of the arm. Extending up from the inner edges of said jaws 55 are indicated a pair of inclined separator projections 51, semi-circular in cross section, as described for the jaws 3l. At the rear of the latter projections is indicated the inclined separator plate 60, similar to 40, which extends up from the said rear body portion 5E.
When this modiedseparator is not in use, it is detachably clamped to the card 20a, by locating the arm 52 below the loops 24.
To use the separator indicated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the user swings the separator in the direction of the arrow A, Fig. 1, by bearing on the pusher plate 4l, and the front ends of the pair of separator jaws 35 will be forced between the top face of the card 20 and the lower face of the head 23 of the snap fastener operated upon, and will initially raise said head 28 from the pin 25. When the separator is pushed further in the direction of the arrow A, the head 28 of the fastener rides upon the separator projections 3l, and said head 28 is instantly and completely separated from the pin 25. Upon the further advance of the separator the head of the pin 25 rides against the lower face of the inclined separator plate 40, which pushes down the said pin 25 and forces the back 26 of the fastener from the card 2D.
Referring to the modied fastener shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the user positions the jaws 55 of the separator with their front ends between the top face of the card 20a and the lower face of the head 28 of one of the snap fasteners and bears against the pusher handle 53 in the direction of the arrow B, Fig. 4, and the said head will initially rise. While the handle 53 is pushed further in the direction of the arrow B, the head 28 of the fastener rides upon the separator projections 51 and said head 28 is instantly and completely separated from the pin 25. Upon the further advance of the modied separator, the head of the pin 25 rides against the lower face of the inclined separator plate 60, which pushes down said pin 25 and forces the back 26 of the fastener from the card 20a.
Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplications are to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. In a separator of the character described, the combination of an arm, a pair of separator jaws integral with one end of the arm and having a rear body portion, a pair of inclined separator projections integral with and extending upwardly from the inner edges of said jaws, an inclined separator plate extending from said rear body por'- tion of said jaws and meeting the rear ends of said projections and a pusher handle at the other end of said arm.
2. In a separator for detaching snap fasteners from a card, the combination of an arm, a pair of separator jaws integral with one end of the arm and parallel to its longitudinal axis, said jaws having a rear body portion, a pair of separator projections semi-circular in cross section extending from the inner edges of said jaws and inclining upwardly toward said rear body portion, a separator plate to the rear of said projections and inclining upwardly and forwardly to said projections and an inclined pusher handle at the other end of said arm.
3. In a separator for snap fasteners the combination of an arm, a pair of separator jaws with a rear body portion integral with said arm, a pair of inclined separator projections integral with and extending from the inner edges of said jaws, a separator plate extending from the rear body portion of said jaws and inclining upwardly toward them and a pusher plate extending up from said rear body portion of said jaws.
