IMPROVEMENT IN BINDERS FOR PAPER TABLETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 2 I 2.729, dated February 25, 1879 application filed November 11, 1878.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, BREDETT O. MURRAY, of Denison, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Binders for Paper Tablets, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a front view of one of my improved tablets. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 is a front view of a modified form of the tablet. Fig. 4 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 5 is an edge view of another modified form of the tablet.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved tablet for blank paper, letter-heads,
bill-heads, sheet-music, letters, &c., which shall be simple in construction and convenient in use, holding its contents securely, and preventing them from coming out should the tablet accidentally fall.
The invention consists in a tablet or musicholder wherein tubes are arranged across the whole width of the covers where they join the back, and are provided with springs connected by cords, so as to allow the ends of papers to pass into the fold of the back and be clasped between the tubes.
A represents the blank paper, bill-heads, letter-heads, music, letters, 860., of which the tablet is formed. B represents the cover,
against which the paper is held. The tablet may he made with one cover B, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or with two covers 13 as shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 5. To the edge of the cover B, when one cover is used, or to the edge of both covers, when two are used, is attached a back, 0, made of cloth or other flexible material. To the back 0, upon one or both sides of the tablet, is attached a tube, 1), within which is placed a rubber or spiral spring, E. To the ends of the spring E are attached the ends of two short inelastic cords or tapes, F, the other ends of which are attached to the cover B upon the other side of the tablet when only one tube and spring are used, and to the ends of the second spring when two tubes and springs are used. The inelastic cords or tapes F bind the edges of the paper A, and cause the tubes and springs D E to hug the said paper, so that it will be held securely in place, while the back 0 prevents the said paper from coming out should the tablet accidentally fall.
In case only one cover B be used, the back 0 may be enlarged or diminished, according to the amount of paper to be held, by unrolling it from or rolling it upon the tube D, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
For small counter-tablets the back 0 is not required, and it may be omitted in all tablets in which cheapness is a desideratum.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the covers 13 and back 0, of the tubes D, having the same width as covers, the spring E, and the tapes F, as and for the purpose specified.-
BREDETT O. MURRAY.
