6 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in bunch builders for spinning mules and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character embodying a construction and arrangement which is such that a comparatively short, uniform wind will be made when forming the bunch and, further, which will cause the bunch to be formed at the very bottom of the bobbin.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a bunch builder of the aforementioned character which may be expeditiously installed on a conventional mule without the necessity of materially altering same structurally.
Still another important object of the invention is to provide a bunch builder of the character described embodying novel means whereby the device may be conveniently positioned on the builder rail of the mule for operation and removed therefrom after the bunch has been formed.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a bunch builder of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efiicient and reliable in use, compact and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective View, showing a bunch builder constructed in accordance with the present invention mounted in position and ready for use on the builder rail of a spinning mule.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation of the invention.
Figure 3 is a view in cross section, taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view substantially similar to Fig. 3 but showing the bunch builder disengaged from the rail.
Figure 5 is a view of a bobbin having thereon a bunch formed with a builder in accordance with the present invention.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a plurality of bearings l which are fixed in any suitable manner at longitudinally spaced points on one side of the usual builder rail 2 of a conventional spinning mule which is designated generally by the reference numeral 3. Journalled in the bearings I is a shaft 4 having fixed on its forward end portion an operating lever or handle 5.
Fixed at spaced points on the rear end portion of the shaft 4 are substantially angular metallic 1 arms 6. Fixed on the free ends of the arms 6 and engageable on top of the rail 2 is a metallic builder bar I which constitutes the most important part of the present invention.
As illustrated to advantage in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the top of the builder bar 1 slopes from the rear end thereof toward the forward end to a comparatively abrupt portion 8 and terminates in a point in a manner to facilitate the mounting thereon from the rail 2 of the usual wheel of the builder mechanism of the mule. Further, the builder bar 1 has formed therein a plurality of arcuate recesses or dips 9 which, as will be readily apparent, cause the aforementioned wheel It (see Fig. 1) to rise and fall. The bar I may be positioned as desired on the rail 2 by adjusting the shaft 4 longitudinally in the bearings l. Movable collars I l are provided on the shaft 4 on opposite sides of one of the bearings l for securing said shaft in adjusted position.
The construction and arrangement of the bar I is such as to make a short, uniform wind on the bobbin when forming the bunch. Further, the bunch will be formed on the lowermost portion of the bobbin. To engage the builder bar 1 on the builder rail 2 of the mule for use, it is only necessary to rock the shaft 4 in one direction through the medium of the handle or lever 5. Of course, when the shaft 4 is rocked in the opposite direction the builder bar 1 is swung to inoperative position, as seen in Fig. 4 of the drawings. Fig. 5 of the drawings illustrates a bobbin l4 having a comparatively short, uniformly wound bunch l5 formed thereon by the device constituting the present invention.
It is believed that the many advantages of a bunch builder constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:-
1. A bunch builder of the class described comprising a rockable shaft, and a builder bar mounted on said shaft and engageable with the builder rail of a spinning mule, said shaft substantially paralleling the builder rail, said bar having a plurality of substantially arcuate recesses therein.
2. A bunch builder of the class described comprising a rockable shaft, means for actuating said shaft, arms fixed on the shaft, and a builder bar fixed on said arms and engageable on the builder rail of a spinning mule, said shaft substantially paralleling the builder rail, said bar having a plurality of substantially arcuate recesses therein.
3. A bunch builder of the class describedcomprising a plurality of bearings, a rockable shaft journalled in said bearings, means for actuating said shaft, a plurality of arms fixed on the shaft, and a builder bar fixed on said arms and engageable on the builder rail of a spinning mule, said shaft substantially paralleling the builder raiLthe top of said builder bar sloping from one end toward its other end and having formed therein a plurality of substantially arcuate dips.
4. In a spinning mule including a, builder rail, a plurality of bearings on one side of said builder rail, a shaft rotatably and slidably mounted in said bearings, adjustable means on said shaft on opposite sides of one of the bearings for securing g; the shaft against longitudinal movement in the bearings, an operating handle fixed on one end portion of the shaft, a plurality of arms fixed on the shaft, and a builder bar fixed on said arms and engageable on the builder rail of the mule.
5. Ina spinning mule including a builder rail, a
plurality of bearin s on one side of said builder rail, a shaft rotatably and slidably mounted in said bearings, adjustable means on said shaft on opposite sides of one of the bearings for securing the shaft against longitudinal movement in the bearings, an operating handle fixed on one end portion of the shaft, a plurality of arms fixed on the shaft, and abuilder bar fixed on said arms and engageable on the builder rail of the mule, the top of said builder bar sloping from its rear end toward its front end and having formed therein a plurality of substantially arcuate dips.
6. In a spinning mule including a builder rail, a shaft journalled on said builder rail substantially in parallelism therewith, means for manually actuating said shaft, and abuilder bar mounted on the shaft and engageable with the builder rail of the mule.
