This invention relates to clothing. It is particularly directed to a snow suit and coat ccmbination garment and the like articles of wearing apparel.

An object of this invention is to provide a garment of the character described comprising a snow suit having means to convert the jacket thereof into a coat.

A further object of this invention is to provide a garment of the character described having a coat bottom attachable to a jacket in such manner that the garment becomes a coat, whereby the wearer may use the jacket with snow suit pants as when at play, or may use the coat with or without the pants, as when going to school.

Another object of this invention is to provide a sleeved garment having means at the ends of and within the sleeves engaging the wrists of the wearer to prevent cold air from entering the sleeves.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a durable and comfortable garment of the character described which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, attractive in appearance and yet practical and efficient to a high degree in use.

Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.

Referring now in detail to the drawings, I designates a combination snow suit and coat embodying the invention and comprising a coat II and snow suit pants I2. The coat I I comprises a jacket I4 forming part of the snow suit and adapted to be converted into a coat, by the addition thereto, in the manner hereinafter appearing, of a coat bottom I5.

The jacket i4 may be of any suitable design and has sleeves I6 and overlapping portions Il! and I 8 buttoned at the front as by buttons I9. The jacket extends below the waistline to substantially the hips of the wearer, as is usual with jackets of snow suits. Said jacket II is provided all around the waistline thereof with a plurality of spaced snap fastener portions 2B. A belt ZI disposed around the waist of the jacket has complementary snap fastener portions 22 cooperating with snap fastener portions Zil to attach the belt to the jacket. The belt end 20a projecting beyond the edge of portion Ia of the jacket has a snap fastener portion 23 engaging snap fastener portion 24 on the other belt end 20h terminating short of said edge for connecting the belt ends. It will be noted that there are snap fastener portions 2l! on the portion Il of the jacket covered by the portion I8 of said jacket, and for the purpose hereinafter appearing.

The coat bottom I5 is the portion of a coat from the waist down and has overlapping portions I 'Ia and ISa at the front. Stitched to the upper edge of said coat bottom is a belt simulating member or strip 26, preferably having an extending end 27. On the inner side of the belt simulating member 25 are a plurality of spaced snap fastener portions 29 complementary to snap fastener portions 29 on the waistline of the jacket and so spaced as to be attachable thereto upon removal of the belt 2i for converting said jacket into a coat. A snap fastener portion 3i! the overlapping portions I1, I 8, respectively, of the jacket.

The snow pants are worn in the usual manner. When a child goes to school, the coat bottom can be used to provide a full coat. After school, the coat bottom may be removed and the belt 2l applied, to provide the usual play suit with the short jacket giving the wearer more freedom of movement.

In Figs. 8 and 9 there is illustrated a modied form of the invention. The garment ma of said figures comprises a jacket and coat bottom 4i. The jacket 40 is similar to jacket i4 except that there is stitched to the waistline thereof, as on line of stitching 43, just above the snap fastener portions 20, the upper edge of a belt simulating member 44 covering said snap fastener portions. Said belt simulating member 44 has an extending end portion 45 overlapping the opposite end 45a. of said member and provided with a snap fastener portion 45 attachable to a complementary snap fastener portion 41 on said opposite end.

The upper edge of the coat bottom 4l has on the inner surface thereof snap fastener portions 49 complementary to the snap fastener portions 20 and attachable thereto for adding the coat bottom to the jacket and transforming the latter into a coat. The upper edge of said coat bottom will thus be received beneath the belt simulating member 44 to enhance the appearance of the garment and giving the appearance of a single complete coat without an attached part. The snap fasteners 2D furthermore may be placed on the inside of the belt simulating member 44, in which event the snap fasteners 49 will be on the outside of the coat bottom 4| for attachment to said fasteners 20.

In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 5 and l0, the jacket 40a is also provided with a belt simulating member 44a at the waistline. Stitched to the inside of said member, adjacent the upper edge thereof, is a slide fastener portion 50. The upper edge of the coat bottom portion 4Ia is likewise received beneath the belt simulating member 44a. and has a slide fastener portion 5I adapted to be attached to said slide fastener portion 50 by a slider` 52 which is detachable from one of said portions when moved to fully detaching position. The belt simulating member 44a has an end portion 53 provided with a snap fastener portion 54 attachable to a complementary snap fastener portion 55 on the other end of the belt simulating member.

Referring now to Fig. l of the drawings, designates the lining of sleeve I6. Stitched to each sleeve lining along line of stitching 6| several inch-es above the outer end of the jacket sleeve, and projecting toward the sleeve end is an inner short sleeve portion 62 of inelastic fabric, such as lining material, terminating short of said outer end of said jacket sleeve. Stitched as at 64 to the outer end of the inner sleeve 62, is a sleeve portion 66 of elastic material such as knitted jersey preferably looped as shown in Fig. l. The elastic jersey sleeve 66 encircles and lightly grips the wristof the wearer to keep the wearers arms warm.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings, is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In combination, a snow suit jacket extending to the hips of the wearer open at the front forming front edges, a belt simulating member having the upper edge thereof stitched to the waistline of said jacket, a coat bottom having the upper edge thereof received beneath said belt simulating member and detachably attached to said jacket, one end only of said belt simulating member extending beyond one front edge of said jacket, and means for attaching said end of said belt simulating member to the other end thereof.

2. A garment comprising a jacket part and a coat bottom part, said jacket part reaching below the waistline and being buttoned at the front and having one vertical edge portion overlapping the other vertical edge portion, means for detachably attaching the upper edge of said coat bottom part to the waistline of said jacket part, whereby said coat bottom part covers the portion of said jacket part below said waistline, a belt simulating member permanently attached to one of said garment parts and covering said detachable attaching means, said coat bottom part having vertical edges aligned with the vertical edges of said jacket and said belt simulating member having an end portion extending beyond the vertical edge of the overlapping portion of the part to which it is attached, and means for detachably attaching said extending end portion of said belt simulating member to an adjacent portion of said belt simulating member overlapped thereby and disposed inward of the other vertical edge of said part.

3. A garment comprising a jacket reaching below the waistline and being buttoned at the front and having one vertical edge portion overlapping the other vertical edge portion, a belt simulating member at the waistline of said jacket and above the lower edge of said jacket and having the upper longitudinal edge thereof attached to said jacket, a coat bottom covering the portion of the jacket below the waistline, the upper edge of said coat bottom being received between said belt simulating member and said jacket, a slider actuated fastener portion on said jacket and beneath said belt simulating member and adapted to be covered thereby, a complementary slider actuated fastener portion at the upper edge of said coat bottom and adapted to be joined with the first slider actuated fastener portion by a slider, said slider being detachable from one of said fastener portions at the end of its fully unfastening movement, to permit separation of said coat bottom from said jacket, said belt simulating member having an end portion` extending beyond the vertical overlapping edge of said coat, and means for detachably attaching said extending end portion of said belt simulating member to an adjacent portion of said belt simulating member overlapped thereby and disposed inward of the other vertical edge of said jacket.
