UNITED STATES PATENT FFIE.
JAMES B. O. SHEVILL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING AND BATH TUBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,327, dated February 18, 1879 application filed September 11, 1878.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES B. O. SEEVILL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bath-Tub and Wash-Tub Combined, which invention is fully set forth in the following specification, reference bein g had to the accompanying drawin gs, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a tub containing my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan or top view thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My invention consists in providing a tub which is divided by a removable partitionboard with a suitable arrangement of devices for holding the removable partition when it is desired to use the tub as a single one.
In the drawings, the letter A designates the body of my tub, which is made of suitable length for bathing, and preferably with sloping sides and ends. B is the partition, and a are grooves formed transversely in the bottom and sides of the tub to receive the partition. These grooves to coincide with or run into each other, and when the partition B is removed either or all of them may be filled by a suitable material. Either the partition B or the grooves a may be faced wit-h india-rubber or other suitable material, to form a packing between them. 0 designates stop-cocks,which are situated on opposite sides of the partition 13, and connected to the ends of pipes b, whereby the tub is intended to be supplied with water.
In the example shown two stop-cocks are arranged on opposite sides of the partition B, and two pipes are used, to permit of supplying the tub with both hot and cold water; but it is obvious that the parts named can be used singly.
Nhen the partition B is put in place the tub A is thereby divided into two compartments, and it will be seen that either of these compartments can be supplied with water independently of the other by the cooks O and the pipes Z). I
The letter D indicates a projecting rear rim of the tub, and through this rim is cut a slot, (2, of sufficient size to receive the detachable partition. E designates a bracket fixed to the rear side of the tub, under the slot (1, and adapted to support the lower edge of the detachable partition, when inserted through the slot d.
In order to bring the tub A to a proper or convenient height for washing, it is placed on legs or supports F, which are secured to its bottom part. The height of the tub, however, renders access thereto for bathing purp difficult, and to obviate this difficulty a able or sliding platform, G, is arranged neath the tub. This platform is guided -n ways 0, attached to the bottom of the tub as shown in Fig. 1, and when moved to its 0 .ter position the platform forms a step for the onvenience of persons getting into the tub In some cases drawers are arranged under the tub A on opposite sides of the platform.
I am aware that it is not new to separate a tub in two parts for using the same for a double purpose. This I do not claim but WVhat I do claim is- The tub A, having the detachable transverse partition B and the projecting slotted rim D, and provided with the bracket E, for supporting the transverse partition when not in use in the tub, and inserted through the slot in said rim, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto set my hand and seal this 7th day of September, 1878.
JAMES B. O. SHEVILL- lVitnesses:
W. HAUFF, CHAS. WAnLERs.
