6 Claims. (01. 214-110) One object of my invention is to provide apside members l5. The specified curvature of each. paratus for handling aggregate such as sand, end member l4 enables closure of these. doors gravel and the like for conveying such aggregate through the aggregate after the container C'is to an aggregate mixer, such as a concrete mixer, propelled into the pile of aggregate with the door 5 the apparatus beingcomparatively simple and open. 5

ratus for conveying aggregate to a concrete In Figure 3 further elements of the apparatus 40 mixer; and are illustrated. An inclined track 30 is provided Figure 4 is a side elevation of a modified form of which may be mounted on a truck T. The trackv carrier. 30 is made of a pair of channel irons spaced lat- On the accompanying drawing I have used the erally and adaptable for receiving the wheels I2, reference character C to indicate a container for and thereby guiding the carrier to. a position 45 aggregate. tainer being open. Wheels l2 are provided for The latch extension.2 9.- is. adapted to engage supporting the container'C so that it can be reada Stationary projection 33' thus releasing ily propelled from one position to another. door D after which a stationary extension 34 en- 50 The open ends of the carrier C are closed by gages a lever 35 of the door D for opening the doorsD and D pivoted to the upper corners of the door so the contents of the container C maybe carrier as at l3. Each of the doors D and D discharged into the concrete mixer 32. comprises an arcuate end member l4 curved on The winch and cable mechanism includes idler a radius from the pivotal axis l3, and a pair of pulleys 36, a dead man pulley 36" and a boom 31 55 carrying an idler pulley 38. The boom 31 is pivoted to the truck T and may move between stops 39 during operation.
In Figure 4 I illustrate a modified form of construction in which a container C is provided with an open end 40 which is constricted by inclining the forward ends of the sides of the container toward each other. In this way the discharge end of the container C may enter the intake opening 4| of a concrete mixer32' for discharging the contents thereinto without spilling them. This carrier is illustrated as having a. manually operable door D" provided with a handle lever 35 and a latch 42 is illustrated for latching the door D" in closed position.
Aside from these features, the carrier C is similar in construction to the carrier C, but does not have all of its automatic advantages.
Practical operation In the operation of my device, referring to Figure 3, the carrier C is being moved in a left hand direction and pulled into a pile of aggregate 43. The door D is open, as shown by solid lines in Figure 1, so the aggregate can enter the container C, but will be retained against falling out of the forward end thereof by the door D latched in closed position by the latch 26.
When the container has been filled, the winch I1 is reversed for swinging the bail I6 of the carrier from the full line position to the dotted position, which first closes the door D and then propels the carrier up the inclined track 30, as shown by dotted lines. Finally as shown by dash lines,
=' the carrier travels down the inclined portion 30 of the track 30, the latch 26 being unlatched adjacent the end of its downward travel and thereafter the extension 34 engaging the handle lever 35 and thereby opening the door D. This permits the contents of the aggregate carrier to be discharged into the chute 3| from which the aggregate slides into the mixer 32.
Just before reaching the height of its travel on the inclined track 30, the bail l6 will engage the pulley 38 of the boom 31 and swing the boom forwardly to the dash line position, thereby raising the forward end of the bail to an out-of-theway position where it does not interfere with the concrete mixer 32. This position is illustrated in Figure 4.
After the contents of the carrier have been discharged, the winch I'! is again reversed for reversing the bail l6 and propelling the aggregate carrier C back for another load of aggregate.
With the construction shown in Figure 4, it is not necessary to release and open a door at the right hand end of the carrier.
A modification of the character shown in Figure 4, when compared with the construction shown in Figure 1, and many others may be made without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.
I claim as my invention:
1. In an aggregate handling apparatus, a wheeled container having open ends, doors for said ends, a bail pivotally connected to said container for reversal relative thereto for pulling said container in either direction, and an operative connection between said bail and said doors to close one door when the bail extends in one direction and to close the other door when the bail extends in the other direction.
2. In an aggregate handling apparatus, a wheeled container having open ends, doors for said ends, said doors being pivoted to said container and being formed on radii from the pivot axes, a bail pivotally connected to said container for reversal relative thereto for pulling said container in either direction, and an operative connection between said bail and said doors to close one door when the bail extends in one direction and to close the other door when the bail extends in the other direction.
3. In an aggregate handling apparatus, a wheeled container having open ends, a door for one of said ends, a bail pivotally connected to the lower part of said container adjacent the center thereof and reversible by swinging fore and aft across thetop thereof for pulling said container in either direction, and an operative connection between said bail and said door to close the door when the bail extends in one direction from its pivotal connection.
4. In an aggregate handling apparatus, a wheeled container having open ends, a door for one of said ends, a bail pivotally connected to said container and reversible by swinging fore and aft across the top thereto for pulling said container in either direction, and a toggle lever connection between said bail and said door to close the door when the bail extends in one direction from its pivotal connection and to open the door when the bail extends in the other direction therefrom.
5. In an aggregate handling apparatus, a wheeled container having open ends, a door for one of said ends, a track for said container terminating adjacent the intake of an aggregate mixer and winch and cable mechanism for alternately propelling said container into a pile of aggregate and along said track to discharge its contents into said mixer, said container having a bail connected to the lower center portion there of with its outer end connected with said winch and cable mechanism, such bail connection being swingable across the top of said container and thereby reversible for pulling the container in either direction.
6. In an aggregate handing apparatus, a wheeled container having open ends, a door for one of said ends, a track for said container terminating adjacent the intake of an aggregate mixer and winch and cable mechanism for alternately propelling said container into a pile of aggregate and along said track to discharge its contents into said mixer, said container having a bail connected with said winch and cable mechanism, such bail connection being reversible for pulling the container in either direction, and a boom pivoted adjacent said aggregate mixer and adapted to be engaged by said bail and raise it to a position where it does not interfere with the mixer as the container assumes a position thereadjacent for discharging its contents.
