1 ATTORNEY for Patented Apr. 26, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in an invisible screw showcase bracket.
More specifically, the invention is characterized by the provision of a pair of spaced support arms each of angular shape in cross section and arranged with their open side disposed downward and having foot portions at one of their ends by which they may be supported upon a showcase foundation and being provided with portions extended upwards at an inclination and a top horizontal portion.
Still further the invention provides for outer angle members for the support arms arranged 1 with their open sides disposed downwards and superimposed on said support arms for clamping the edges of glass panes therebetween.
Another object of the invention is the provision of anchorage elements at spaced superimposed locations on said support arms and the angle member through which fastening elements may be engaged for fixedly holding the spaced support arms and the angle members with the panes of glass clamped therebetween.
Still further the invention provides that the spaced support arms and the outer angle members be provided with grooves into which the anchorage elements may be removably mounted to permit interchanging of the anchorage elements in the event the threads become stripped.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:---
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a showcase having invisible screw brackets according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a detailed sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 9 is a sectional view taken on the line 9-9 of Fig. 8.
Fig. 10 is a sectional view taken on the line Ill-I0 of Fig. 9.
The invisible screw showcase bracket, according to this invention, is to be used in conjunction with a showcase in which a pair of spaced support arms Hi, each of angular shape in cross section, are arranged with their open sides disposed downwards and having foot portions II at one of their ends by which they may be supported. Outer angle members l2 for the support arms Hi are arranged with their open sides disposed downwards and are superimposed on the support arms it) for clamping the edges of pane of glass 13 therebetween. Anchorage elements Hi are mounted at spaced superimposed intervals on the support arms and the angle members and fastening elements i5 engage through the support arms and their anchorage elements and threadedly engage the anchorage elements of the outer angle members.
The support arms iii are mounted on a showcase foundation which consists of a counter 16 constructed of wood and having a metal covering ll upon which the foot Ii rests. This foot II is provided with openings H through which screws l8 are adapted to pass in order to hold the support arms iii in position upon the counter. The other ends of the supports arms I i rest upon a rear window IQ of conventional construction and for this reason none of the details are given in this specification as this window forms no part of the invention.
The support arms iii have portions Ill extending upwards at an inclination and continue into top horizontal portions NW. The support arm IE: is provided with the anchorage elements I4 which are fixedly held in position by welding, brazing, or similar means so as to be integral therewith. The support arm iii in the vicinity of the connection between the upward inclined portion ifl and the top horizontal portion ifl is provided with a reinforcing member Hi which extends between the anchorage elements 14 in this vicinity and are integrally formed therewith and fixedly attached to the support arm ill together with the element M to strengthen the arm in this vicinity. Thus it will be seen in Fig. 6 the support arm Ill and the reinforcing member Hi fill in the space between the arms of the angle support arm forming a solid construction provided with an opening 20 through which the fastening element It engages. The anchorage element id at the lower end of the upward inclined portion H3 is provided with a reinforcing member I l which is provided with the foot I! and which fills the space between the arms of the angular support member to strengthen the bottom portion of the support arm.
The remaining anchorage elements M are merely integrally formed with the arms of the angular support member II] and are provided with the openings 20 through which the fastening eleients i5 engage.
The outer angle members !2 consist of strips of angular material which are provided with anchorage elements M welded, brazed, or in any other manner integrally formed therewith and which are spaced at superimposed intervals with relation to the anchorage elements [4 on the support arms, and are provided with threaded openings 2| into which the ends of the fastening elements l5 are adapted to engage in order to clamp the panes of glass I3 between the angle members l2 and the support arms Hi. The angle member l2 which is superimposed on the top horizontal portion 50 of the support arm I is provided at one of its ends with a turned under edge portion i2 which is adapted to engage about the edge of the top pane of glass l3 to prevent this pane of glass from slipping from between the angle members l2 and the top horizontal portion NW.
The panes of glass l3 consist of a top pane l3 clamped in position upon the top horizontal portion I0 of the support arm 0, a front pane of glass l3 clamped in position upon the upward inclined portion IQ, and end panes of glass l3 clamped in position upon the ends of the showcase against the sides of the top horizontal portion W and the upward inclined portions se The rear end of the show case is closed by the window structure l 9 of conventional construction.
The main feature of this invention is the support arm H) which is provided with the upward inclined portion Ill and the top horizontal portion 10 against which the panes of glass [3 may be clamped after they have been set in position, and outer angular members engaged thereover which are provided with anchorage members M in superimposed positions with anchorage members on the support arm I!) and through which the fastening means comprising screws or similar elements may be engaged for holding the support arm I0 and the angle members 12 in position with the panes of glass clamped therebetween.
According to the modification shown in Figs. 8-10 a means is provided for removably mounting the anchorage members l4 upon the support arms it and the angle members I2. This means consists of grooves 25 which are milled in the inner faces of the support arms 40 and the angle members 12 and which are provided with wide mouths 1Z5 and narrow inner ends 25'. The anchorage elements i4 consist of small metallic members which are adapted to be placed into the Wide mouth 25 of the slots 25 and then slipped downward within the slots 25 until they engage the narrow inner portions 25 When they engage these narrow inner portions 25 the fastening member 15 may be engaged therethrough for clamping the panes of glass l3 between the support arm I!) and the angle member I2. These grooves 25 have their edges arranged so that the edges of the anchorage elements l4 will engage thereagainst to prevent the anchorage elements from slipping out of the grooves when pressure is applied thereto by means of the screw or fastening means 25. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to the previous form and similar parts may be recognized by corresponding reference numerals.
The operation of this form of the invention is as follows: When the threads upon any of the anchorage elements [4 become stripped, or other reasons, it is merely necessary to disengage the fastening element l5 from these anchorage elements It to permit the anchorage element M to be disengaged from the slot 25 through the wide mouth 25*. Then a new anchorage element i4 may be engaged into the slot 25 through the mouth 25 and slid to a position in which it will engage the narrow inner end 25' for fixedly holding the panes of glass between the support arm II! and the angle member 12 when the screw I5 has been returned to its normal position.
While we have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of our invention, it is to be understood that we do not limit ourselves to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention, What we claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:--
