3 Claims.

This invention relates to holders for drawing ink bottles, and more particularly for India-ink bottles commonly used by draftsmen, and. it has for its object the provision of a special holder for holding in raised position the bottle stopper carrying a pen, in order to enable the draftsman to impregnate the ruling-pen with ink from the pen raised on the surface of the drawing-table, or to take ink from the bottle in a separate pen, and thus prevent the stopper from rolling on the drawing-table, as often occurs, thereby splashing or staining with the ink carried by its pen the sheet of drawing fixed on the table, with resulting ruin of the drawing made.

The invention is described with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawing, of which:

Fig. l is a perspective view of an India-ink bottle placed on the holder constituting the subject-matter of this invention, the stopper being in closed position.

Fig. 2 is a view similar to that of Fig. 1, showing the bottle in open position with the stopper in raised position to hold the pen in an adequate position for taking ink therefrom with a rulingpen.

Fig. 3 is a perspective detailed view showing in open angular position the two collars on which the stopper for the ink bottle is mounted.

The holder constituting the subject-matter of this invention comprises a platform or supporting base I preferably of sheet metal, to which a sheet-metal member 2 of Z-shape in longitudinal section is fixed by rivets 3 and which has at the end edge of its horizontally extended upper branch a semi-circular notch 4 adapted to receive and serve as a stop for the neck of a bottle 5 of the type commonly known as India-ink bottles for draftsmens use, and on the central branch of said member 2 is fixed by rivets B one of the ends of a metal strip I which is bent upon itself to form an upwardly inclined arm I in 'a direction opposed to the upper branch of the member 2 and on whose free end is pivotally connected by a horizontal pin 8 a link 9 which is pivotally connected by means of another horizontal pin II) with a metal strip I I bent upon itself to form at its end a collar I2 adapted to embrace the conical upper end I3 of the stopper I4 of the bottle 5 and rest above the annular rim I5 of stopper I4.

To the metal strip I I is pivotally connected by means of ahorizontal pin I6 another metal strip I8 bent upon itself to form at its end a second collar I9 adapted to embrace the stopper I4 beneath the annular rim I5 thereof, the free end of the strip I8 having a hole 20 and. the middle portion of the strip II a hole 2|, said holes being in transverse alignment in the holding position of the stopper I4 by the collars I2 and I9 to receive a wing-screw 22 and thus fix the two collars in 5 parallel position. In this held position of the stopper I4, the link 9 may be caused to swing upward together with the metal strips II and I8 on the horizontal pivot 8 carrying along the stopper I4 with pen 23 impregnated with ink for 0 taking the latter to a ruling-pen, the-stopper I4 being capable of freely rotating within the two collars I2 and I9. The stopper I4 will be maintained in raised position by the friction between the juxtaposed portions of pivotally connected 15 arm I, link 9 and strip II.

When it is desired to remove the stopper I4 from the holder for substitution of the bottle 5 or for any other purpose, the screw 22 is unscrewed to allow the collar I2 to freely move with relation 20 to the other collar I9, and once the stopper I4 is in raised position, the collar [2 is first removed from above the stopper and then the collar I9 from beneath the pen 23, whereupon the bottle 5 and its stopper I4 will be freed and canv be re- 25 moved from. the holder.

It is obvious that the parts and shape of the holder may be slightly changed, without by this reason it may be considered as altered the essential character of the invention, which is such as claimed hereinafter.

What I claim is:

1. A holder for drawing ink bottles, comprising a supporting base for the bottle, a member fixed to the base and having a projection provided with an end notch to engage the neck of the bottle and serve as a stop therefor, a supporting arm fixed to said member and projecting therefrom in a direction opposed to the projection, oscillatory means pivotally mounted on the supporting arm,

' a pair of relatively movable collars for removably supporting the stopper of the bottle, one of the collars being pivotally connected to the oscillatory means and the two collars being pivotally connected to each other, and means to firmly secure both collars to each other in a parallel position.

2. A holder for drawing ink bottles, comprising a supporting base for the bottle, a sheet member of Z-shape in longitudinal section which is fixed to the base by its lower branch and whose upper branch has a notch at its end edge to receive and retain the neck of the bottle, a supporting arm projecting from the central branch of said member of Z-shape in a direction opposed to the upper branch, and oscillatory means pivotally mounted on the free end of the supporting arm and provided at their free end with a pair of relatively movable collars for removably supporting the stopper of the bottle.

A holder for drawing ink bottles, comprising a supporting base for the bottle, a sheet member of Z-shape in longitudinal section which is fixed to the base by its lower branch and whose upper branch has a notch at its end edge to receive and retain the neck of the bottle, a supporting arm in the form of a sheet bent upon itself and fixed at one end of the central branch of the Z-shaped member, a pair of sheet strips each of which is bent upon itself to form an end collar and both being pivotally connected to each other by a horizontal pivot, a link pivotally connected at its end respectively to the supporting arm and to one of the collar-forming strips by horizontal pivots, and a locking screw for holding the two collar-forming strips in a parallel position in which both collars embrace the stopper of the bottle above and beneath an annular rim of the stopper.
