Description

F b. 15, 1938. F. BRODSKY 2,108,363
I LOOSE LEAF SHEET Filed Oct. 21, 1955 Patented Feb. 15, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 4 Claims.
This invention relates to loose-leaf books and has special reference to a loose-leaf sheet for such books.
The invention further relates to a loose-leaf sheet for such books arranged to hold small flat articles such as photographs, cards, stamps and the like removably on the sheet.
One important object of the invention is to provide a loose-leaf sheet having a novel form of binge between the portion of the sheet used for binding and the free portion of the sheet.
A second important object of the invention is to provide an improved form for such sheets whereby sheets bound in a book and opened will lie substantially flat one on another.
A third important object of the invention is to provide a novel form of loose leaf sheet having improved folds extending thereacross for holding small flat articles.
A fourth important object of the invention is to provide an improved form of sheet having article holding folds arranged in a novel reinforced manner.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawing like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views; and
Figure 1 is a plan view of the device.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a modified form of the device.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 3.
In carrying out the invention as shown in Figtires 1 and 2 the strip 23 and body 24 are'connected by a flexible strip having a central portion 25 and lateral or edge portions 26, these portions being defined from each other by fold lines or creases 21. This strip has its lateral portions 26 held to one face of the binding strip 23 and the opposite face of the body 24 by adhesive as shown at 28. It is to be noted that the portions 28 are attached in spaced relation to the proximal edges to the strip 23 and body 24.
In the form shown in Figures 3 and 4 an attaching strip is provided having a main or body portion 29 and one lateral portion 30 defined from the main portion by a fold line or crease 3|. The lateral portion 30 in this form is attached to the strip 23 in spaced relation to its free or outer edge by adhesive 32. The inner edge portion of the body 24 has a fold or crease line 33 to provide an attaching strip 34 which is secured by adhesive 35 in spaced relation to the free edge of the strip part 29. With this form the binding strip 23 and body 24 will lie in the same plane upon the book being closed.
It is obvious that the connecting strips will be made of thin, tough and flexible material so as to have long life and to cause little increase in the thickness of the bound book.
There has thus been provided simple and emcient devices of the kind described and for the purposes specified.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the proportions of these devices without departing from the material principles involved. It is therefore to be understood that the invention is to be limited solely by the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed, is:-
1. A sheet for the purpose described consisting of a normal sized sheet cut to provide a binding strip and a body portion forming together a sheet of the original width, and a connecting strip of flexible material adhesively connected to the proximal edge portions of the top of the binding strip and the bottom of the body portion.
2. A sheet for the purpose described consisting of a normal sized sheet cut to provide a binding strip and a body portion forming together a sheet of the original width, and a connecting strip of flexible material adhesively connected some distance away from the edge portions of the top of said binding strip and the bottom of the body portion, said connecting strip having a fold line extending in spaced relation to the longitudinal edge of the portion of the strip secured to the binding strip and defining said secured portion from the remainder of the strip.
3. A sheet for the purpose described consisting of a normal sized sheet cut to provide a binding strip and a body portion forming together a sheet of the original width, and a connecting strip of flexible material adhesively connected some distance away from the edge portions of the bottom of the binding strip and the top of the body portion, said connecting strip having a pair of fold lines extending in spaced relation to the longitudinal edges of the strip and defining its second portions from the remainder of the connecting strip.
4. A sheet for the purpose described consisting of a normal sized sheet out to provide a binding strip and a body portion forming together a sheet of the original width, and a connecting strip of flexible material adhesively connected some distance away from the edge portions of the top of the binding strip and the bottom of the body portion, said connecting strip having a fold line xtending in spaced relation to the longitudinal edge of the portion of the strip secured to the binding strip and defining said secured portion from the remainder of the strip, said body portion having a fold line defining the part secured to the connecting strip from the remainder of the body portion.
