IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,728, dated December 10, 1878 application filed November 25, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES URIE, Sr., of Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a plow embodying the improvements in my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the upper end of the curved standard.
This invention has relation to plows; and consists in the improvements in the construe lion of the same hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
A represents the goose-neck beam or ordinary curved standard and beam in one piece. The standard G is made flush with the landside, and has a frog, B, and extends upward to form a curved colter. It is secured to the curved beam A near its bottom, and also the land-side and the point is beveled to form a lap.
A brace, E, connects the mold-board F and the laud'sidc Gr, and prevents them from being forced from their places. Handle-braces h h, perforated at their upper ends, are secured to the curved standard A by the upper bolt, a, and to the plow-handle H by bolts i. The bandles H are pivoted to the beam at their points by a bolt, 7c.
A slot, 1', in the curved beam A permits the curved standard 0 to be adjusted to elevate or depressthe plow-point I by simply loosening or tightening the out (I, first having turned the set-screw e to permit it to be done, and afterward turning the set-screw c to hold the point in the position to which it has been ad justed. The curved standard 0 is \l-shaped in cross-section, the rear of it forming a neat and compact bearing for the beam, which is snugly fitted to it. The handles H are also adjustable by means of the bolts Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s
1. In a plow, the curved standard 0, V- shaped in cross-section, having the frog B, and provided with slots at and c, hook-bolt I), and set-screw c, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a plow, the combination of the curved standard U, slotted at c, with the hook-bolt b, nut d, set-screw e, and curved beam A, constructed substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I hereby affix my signature in pres ence of two witnesses.
JAMES URIE, SR. Witnesses:
