The underside of a wrist watch case is usually plated with chromium and when this wears off it exposes the nickel, brass, or other base metal which is rough and 'abrades the skin and often causes infection and blood poisoning.

The object of my invention is to overcome these undesirable and objectionable features and to provide means whereby the cold metal of the wrist watch case will not come into direct contact with the wrist, thereby avoiding the unpleasant touch which such contact produces.

My invention consists in providing a leather guard or shield adapted to cover the lower surface of the watch case, together with means for attaching it to the pin bars and watch straps, respectively, whereby it is adapted to be held in fixed contact and concealed relation. with the lower surface of the watch case.

In the embodiment of my invention as illustrated and which shows a preferred construction, I preferably provide a flexible leather guard l which is formed of the desiredshape to cover the lower surface 2 of the watch case 3, and I provide said guard at its ends with integral tabs I and 5 adapted to be curved upwardly and inwardly and glued to the body of the guard to form eyes S and l to receive pin bars I and 9 of the watch case 3. 4 and 5 are beveled so that no uncomfortable bumps are produced. The inner end of each watch strap II and II, respectively, is provided with a centrally formed recess l2 and I3, adapted to re- .ceive the eye portions 6 and I of the

4 and 5.

In order to assemble the guard I and watch straps II and II, preparatory to fastening them to watch case 3, place the eyes 6 and I, formed at the ends of guard I, in recesses l2 and II, respectively, then adjust this hinge connection between the lugs or cars 14 and I5 of the watch case and insert the pin bar through the hinge and-ears respectively, as shown in Fig. 2. The other end of the strap may be connected together in any suitable manner, such as by 5 buckle l6.

Thus it is seen that the watch is provided with a concealed guard whereby the wrist is aiforded a pleasant touch and is protected from danger of infection and the like.

An important advantage of my invention is that the guard may be formed of thinner material than the s'raps and snugly fit against the underside of the watch in compact and concealed relation thereto, and that it does not mar the beauty of the watch. Furthermore, it permits the straps to rest in their natural and neat close contact relation with the wrist.

My invention is capable of some modification without departure from its scope or spirit as defined in the claims.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In means of the class described, the combination of a non-metallic flexible guard having an integral tab at each end thereof folded on and secured to the guard to form a projecting transverse eye at each end of the guard, a wrist watch case of a width wider than that of the guard and beneath which case the guard is dis- 30 posed and concealed, a pair of strap members each having a transverse eye and each provided with a recess adapted to receive one of the guard eyes, and pin bars mounted on the watch case and extending through the eyes of the guard and straps whereby said parts are secured in operative relation to the watch case.

2. In means of the class described, a wrist watch case having perforated pin bar lugs at each end thereof, a leather guard disposed beneath the watch and having integral attaching eyes at its opposite ends, a strap likewise having pin bar loops at its ends adjacent the watch case, and pin bars extending through the guard eyes, strap loops and case lugs for connecting said guard, strap and watch case together whereby said guard is held to and beneath said watch case on the wrist of the wearer.

3. In combination, a wrist watch case having a detachable pin bar at each end thereof, a. leather guard upon the lower surface of the watch case and having an eye at each end thereof adapted to be pivotally mounted on said pin bars respectively, and a wrist watch strap having ends provided with eyes also adapted to be pivoted on said pin bars in cooperative relation with said guard.

4. In a device of the class described the combination with a wrist watch case having projecting from opposite ends thereof pivot lugs, pin

bars at each end'of the case and supported by the case lugs, a guard of a width less than that of the case and having projecting from opposite ends thereof attaching eyes and respectively receiving one of the pin bars, and a wrist watch strap for securing the watch case to the wrist of the wearer and having at opposite ends thereof eyes respectively receiving one of the pin bars for securing same to the watch case.

5. In a device of the class described the combination with a wrist watch case having projecting from opposite ends thereof spaced pivot lugs, pin bars at each end of the case and supported by the case lugs, a guard of a width lea than that of the case and having projecting from opposite ends thereof attaching eyes and respectively receiving one of the pin bars, said attaching eyes being of a width less than the distance between the case pivot lugs and a wrist watch strap for securing the watch case to the wrist of the wearer and having at opposite ends thereof eyes respectively receiving one of the pin bars mousse for securing same to the watch case, said strap eyes being bifurcated and adapted to receive between the resulting eye arms the guard eyeswhereby said guard eyes when mounted on the pin bars are disposed intermediate the sides of the strap.

6. In a device of the class described, the combination with a wrist watch case having projecting from opposite ends thereof spaced Divot lugs,

pin bars at each end of the case and supported by the case lugs, a guard of a Width less than that of the case and having projecting from opposite ends thereof attaching eyes and respectively receiving one of the pin bars, said attaching-eyes being of a length less than the distance between the case pivot lugs, and a wrist watch strap for securing the watch case to the wrist of the wearer and having at opposite ends thereof eyes respectively receiving one of the pin bars for securing same to the watch case, and said strap eyes be-
