3 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in gas burners.
The object of my invention is to provide a burner having a fuel mixing chamber, one side of which is open and shouldered to receive a plurality of bars removably seated upon the shoulders, the edges of the bars alternately varying with respect to a horizontal plane, as means to interrupt the flow of gaseous fuel as it ows thereunder as a final mix, prior to ejection through slots formed by a separating means for the bars.
A still further object of my invention is to improve tliat which is set forth in my application filed December 3, 1935, Ser. No. 52,637, the said application failing to disclose the position of the bars together with the modification herein set forth.
A further object of my present invention is to introduce other improvements and to reduce the costs of construction, all of which has proven a greater efficiency with respect to the fuel combustion.
These and other objects will hereinafter be more fully explained, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters will apply to like parts in the different views.

Fig. 3 is a side view of the bars showing the same alternately turned and a fragmentary sectional view of the mixing chamber.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken 0n line 4-4 in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a plan view involving a portion of the bars as assembled.
Fig. 6 is a modified view eliminating the arcuate edge by virtue of a straight aligned depression, 40 which is approximately aligned with the inward extremity of the arced feature, and to which the said Fig. 4 will apply, as said view shows the bars staggered.

My invention herein disclosed consists of a fuel mixing chamber l, having an extension 2, the side walls of which converge to a point A, from which point continues a tubular neck 3 having on the outer end thereof a funneled element 4. with an air valve revolvably carried therein and surrounding an inlet .gas pipe 5, the latter having a check valve control.
Integrally formed on each opposite side of the fuel mixing chamber is a shoulder 6, spaced down- Ward from the upper edge of their respective side (Cl. 15S- 104) walls B and C, it being understood that the said fuel mixing chamber is open at the upper side and has a rear Wall D and a bottom E, the other end as at F has an opening communicating with the said extension 2, through which gaseous fuel mixture enters the said chamber.
The said shouldered opening is adapted to receive a plurality of bar elements 1 abutting closely to fill the opening and being carried by the said shoulders, substantially as shown.
Each bar has integrally formed spacing lugs on one side and edge thereof as at 8 and 8f, by which means, when the said bars are snugly assembled as shown in Fig. 1, a series of slots 9 are formed, functioning as jets through which the fuel ejects for ignition.
One edge of each bar from lugs 8 to 8 is removed a short distance inward as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, one edge of which is arcuate in form, the other bein-g in straight alignment as an alternate, and when assembled as above described, the said bars are alternately inverted end for end as shown in said Vfigures and Fig. 4, by which means an interrupted surface is provided, against which the pre-mixed fuel will impinge, by which means a further and final agitation of the fuel mixture is had for best result of combustion, further more a similar surface is provided for the upper or outer side of the bar assembly, in which instance; by reason of a wide separation of the slots, a current of air is introduced therebetween stimulating combustion of the fuel, the air being introduced at, or on a lower plane where combustion takes place by reason of the alternate position of the bar edges.
Such other modifications may be employed as lie within the scope of the appending claims.
Having fully described my invention What I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent iszl. In a gas burner, a fuel mixing chamber having an open top for supporting a grate, a grate formed of assembled bars arranged transversely of the incoming stream of fuel mixture, each bar being generally rectangular in cross-section with one side only recessed to form a narrow fuel discharge slot when in place against the opposite side of an adjacent bar, and one edge only of each bar being recessed, said bars being assembled with the recessed edges faced alternately in upward and downward directions for the purposes set forth.

In a gas burner, a fuel mixing chamber hav- Y mixture, and an open top for supporting a grate, a grate formed of bars arranged transversely of the incoming stream of fuel mixture, each bar being generally rectangular in cross-section with one side only recessed to form a narrow fuel discharge slot when in place against the opposite side of an adjacent bar, each alternate bar having its lower edge upwardly recessed whereby the fuel mixture is further agitated and proportioned for delivery to the several discharge slots.
