Description
3mm E. Hole C. E. ROCHE CARD HOLDER Nov. 23, 1937.
Filed June lO, 1936 Patented Nov. 23, 1937 UNITED sATEs PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a card holder for holding identication cards, price cards, and the like, and has for its principal object the improvement of a device of the character stated to the end that the card is securely held for display.
The further object of the invention is the provision of a means whereby identification cards, such as those used by laundries for barbers coats and the like that have hertofore been identied by the name of the wearer embroidered into the coat, the means provided consisting of a detachable card holder, so that should the original wearer of the coat discontinue Wearing it, the coat or other article may be used for another wearer and thus prevent loss to the laundry or the eX- pense of removing the embroidered name and substituting another embroidered name therefor.
The invention will be described in detail hereinafter and will be found illustrated in the accompanying drawing ir which:
Figure l is a front View in elevation of the improved card holder;
Figure 2 is an end view;
Figure 3 is a rear view;
Figure 4 is a transverse section on a plane indicated by the line -ll of Figure 1, and
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view on a plane indicated by the line 5 5 of Figure l.
In the drawing similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts in all of the views.
As disclosed inthe drawing the card holder comprises a plate I of any suitable material, such for instance as sheet metal, Celluloid, and the like, and has its edges returned on three sides as shown at Il to provide a recess I2 to engage and hold the corresponding edges of an identification card i3, said card to be used for the name and address of the wearer of the laundered article, or obviously the card may be used for a price card or any special advertising matter that might be imprinted thereon for display.
On the rear side of the plate I0 are provided spring clips I4 consisting of elongated tongues,
as shown that are secured at one of their ends l to the plate l0 in any suitable manner, said tongues being formed of any suitable resilient material, and have their free terminals provided with enlarged buttons that may be circular as 5 shown in the drawing or any other shape that may be preferred, said buttons being designated I6, and providing an enlarged clamping surface for the tongues and having marginal flanges Ilia for engagement by a thumb or finger nail, providing means for manually releasing the tongues from clamping engagement when removing the plate and card frame from an article.
In use it will be apparent that the large plate and frame may be attached to the inner pocket of a coat or secured to any article as may be desired by means of the clips I4 and the structure, as hereinbefore stated, lends itself to providing means whereby the identification card or card for any other use may be readily removed and replaced.
I claim as my invention:-
1. A card holder, comprising a frame member adapted to receive and retain an identification card or the like, spring clips secured to said frame adjacent opposite sides and within the area of the frame and adapted to secure it in position for display of said card, a button on the free end of each clip, and a marginal flange on each button for engagement by a thumb or linger nail in releasing the clip.
2. A card holder, comprising a plate, edges of said plate returned on its intermediate portion and providing recesses for receiving the edges of an identification card, spring clips secured to said plate adjacent opposite sides and within the area of the plate, each of said clips being a tongue of resilient material, secured at one terminal to the plate, and a button on the free end of the tongue providing an enlarged clamping surface, and a marginal iiange on said button for engagement by a thumb or iinger nail in releasing the clip.
CARROLL E. ROCHE.
