BY /RAM United States Patent M 3,623,253 WATCH CALENDAR Samuel E. Hohulin, 16 Peine Road, Lexington, II]. 61753 Filed Nov. 5, 1969, Ser. No. 874,338 Int. Cl. G09d 3/00 US. Cl. 40-107 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus adapted to be attached to a watch band to carry a current calendar blank. A single piece of flat metal that can be easily bent to encircle a watch band has retaining ears to removably receive a calendar blank.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in watch band calendars, and more particularly to a device which is designed for carrying a calendar and can be readily and easily attached to a wristwatch band.
It is an object of this invention to provide a device which is adapted to receive a calendar blank which can be easily changed to display the correct month calendar.
It is another object of this invention to provide such a device which can be easily attached to a watch band.
It is another object to provide a device which can remain on the wrist of the wearer while the calendar is changed.
Another object is to provide a device which allows the calendar to be oriented on the wrist of the wearer so that it can be read from a direction suitable to the wearer.
A further object is to provide a device which is adapted to display an advertising message each time the calendar blank is changed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent upon examination of the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a plan view of the calendar blank.
FIG. 4 is a plan view of the device attached to a wrist band with the calendar blank removed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, in FIG. 1 the device is shown generally by reference numeral 10, and comprises a substantially fiat body 15 having tabs 11 disposed at each end thereof. At the top and bottom of the body 15, there are retaining ears 12 adapted to receive a calendar blank. Also shown in FIG. 1 are raised channels 13 which serve to force the calendar blank upwardly away from the body 15 and in close frictional contact with the retaining ears 12.
FIG. 2 shows the curved retaining ears 12 in a sectional view taken on line 21 of FIG. 1. It further shows the raised channels 13 formed in the body 15.
3,623,253 Patented Nov. 30, 1971 FIG. 3 is a plan view of calendar blank 16 which is rectangular in shape and formed of flat material, displaying indicia on the front thereof. Additional blanks displaying the current month would be provided with the invention.
FIG. 4 is a general view of the device 10 attached to a wrist band 17, which is accomplished by folding the tabs 11 around the wrist band 17.
In operation, the device 10 is attached to a wrist band by folding the tabs 11 around a wrist band to securely hold the body 15 in place, it being contemplated that the body 15 would not thereafter have to be removed from the wrist band while changing calendar blanks. The blanks 16 are rectangular in shape and can thus be inserted between the body 15 and retaining cars 13 in any position desirable to the wearer.
The raised channels 13 impinge on the underside of the blank 16, forcing it upward in close contact with the retaining ears 13, serving to hold the blank securely in place. The channels 13 serve the additional function of raising the blank 16 off the surface of the body 15 so that any indicia, or advertising message printed on the body 15 will not be scraped otf by the action of the blank 16 against the body 15.
While the foregoing description sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that various changes in shape and size, as well as materials may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. A watch calendar comprising, in combination, a substantially flat body member having tapering tabs at each end thereof adapted to be folded around a watch band, a rectangular center portion with parallel corrugations raised upwardly therein, retaining ears at each side of said rectangular center portion adapted to be folded upwardly and in close proximity to said rectangular center portion to form retaining slots, and a calendar display rectangle receivable in said retaining slots, said parallel corrugations operative to support said calendar display rectangle in spaced relation to said fiat body member.
