cal to manufacture and simple in form. As particular features, the display device of the invention may be made of inexpensive material and may be easily set up into display position.
It is another object of the invention to provide a display device which may be conveniently packed and shipped in knock-down position so that it is not bulky and does not occupy much space. Preferably according to this invention the device is formed of foldable material and may be readily moved between a substantially flat shipping position and a set-up display position. Various other novel features and advantages of the invention will become more apparent after a reading of the following description and reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a plan View of a foldable blank from which the display device of the invention may be formed;
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the device in set-up position;
Fig. 3 is a front elevational View of the device shown in Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional View on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.
There is shown in Fig. 1 a blank 2 which is formed to have the desired parts for forming the device of the invention. Although the structure may be formed in various ways, it is preferably formed of a sheet of foldable material, such as cardboard or the like, and it includes a substantially rectangular body portion 4.
I-Iingedly connected to the body 4, as by a hinge 6 is what may be called a connecting member 8, and what I call a supporting section I is hinged to the part 8 by a hinge I2. This blank 2 may also include an attaching member l4, all as will later appear.
The body member 4 is adapted to be disposed in a substantially vertical position as shown in Fig. 2, and it may be arranged so as to be secured to a suitable support or lean against a supporting member, all as may be desired. In any event, the blank is foldable on the line 6 so that the connecting member 8 may extend away from the part 4 as shown in Fig. 2.
Then the part H] is connected to the forward marginal edge of the connecting member as by hinge I2, also as shown in the drawings, so that. it may be folded to extend inwardly towards the support 4 at substantially right angles thereto. That is to say,'with the member 4 verticallydisposed as shown, the ledge or supporting member I ll is substantially horizontal while the connec- 10 tion 8 extends angularly relative to both of those members as shown.
The blank 2 is then provided with one or more openings or apertures 20 which preferably extend through the hinge l2 inwardly into the ledge portion It a considerable distance as shown and also into the connecting member 8. The shape of, these slots may be varied as desired but it is preferable that the portions thereof which are nearest the hinge 12 be somewhat wider than the 20 parts away therefrom for a purpose which will presently appear.
In setting up the device of the invention when formed from the blank 2 just described, the blank is folded on the lines 6 and I2 as shown so that 5 the body 4 is disposed in a substantially vertical position and the ledge member 10 extends inwardly towards the same at substantially right angles thereto. With this arrangement, the connecting member 8 extends between the upper marginal edge of the body 4 and the outer marginal edge of the ledge ill at an angle relative to both of these members so as to form therewith a hollow supporting part which is substantially triangular in cross-section, as shown. 5
With this arrangement, articles such as tubes T of usual form having cap or flange-like parts C at their upper ends may be so associated with the device that they are supported by their parts C with their main body portions suspended in substantially vertical position from the triangular section just mentioned. That is to say, with the parts 8 and Ill folded relative to the part 4 in the manner described, the openings 20 provide slots having entrances at the forward side of the device so that the flanged parts C of articles may be inserted therein and supported on the upper surface of the folded ledge member [0, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
It is, of course, desirable that some means be provided whereby the ledge portion I0 is retained in the horizontal supporting position shown and this means may take various forms. However, according to the preferred form of the invention, an attaching member I4 is provided and this is hingedly connected as by a hinge Hi to the free edge of the part It).
Then this part l4 may be folded upwardly or downwardly to lie adjacent the inner surface of the body 4 and be attached thereto to hold the ledge l0 vertical.
Or, the part l4 may be formed to have parts which extend outwardly beyond the marginal sides of the body 4 as shown. In this event, the extensions may be attached as by adhesive, tacks, nails, or the like to a wall or other supporting surface so that the device is held in suspended position with the articles displayed as shown.
It is desired to point out that various articles may be displayed on this device and that while flange or cap-bearing articles such as tooth-paste tubes are especially suitable,-o-ther things such as jars and the like may have their tops inserted in the openings 20 so as to be supported by the upper surface of part 10.
While I have described the invention in great detail and with respect to a preferred form thereof, it is not desired to be limited thereto since many changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A display device of the class described comprising in combination, a substantially flat and vertically-disposed body member, a substantially fiat and horizontally-disposed ledge member extending forwardly from the forward face of said body member at a point intermediate its upper and lower marginal edges, and a connecting member extending downwardly from said upper marginal edge of the body member to the forward marginal edge of the ledge member so as to form therewith a hollow support, said connecting member being provided with an enlarged opening adjacent its connection with the ledge member and said ledge member being provided with a rearwardly tapering opening which leads into said enlarged opening, all adapted and arranged whereby an object may be introduced into said enlarged opening and moved rearwardly into said tapering opening so as to be supported within said hollow support by the portions of the ledge member surrounding said tapering opening.
2. A display device of the class described formed of a single sheet of foldable material and comprising in combination, a verticallydisposed substantially flat main body member of a certain length and width, a connecting member hinged to the upper marginal edge of said body member and inclining downwardly and forwardly therefrom a horizontal ledge member hinged to the lower marginal edge of said connecting member and extending rearwardly therefrom to adjacent said body at a point intermediate the upper and lower marginal edges thereof, said ledge being provided with a downwardlydirected rearwardly tapering opening therein, said body and connecting and ledge members cooperating to form a hollow support of triangular cross-section and said connecting member being provided with an enlarged slot leading into said opening in the ledge member, and an attaching member of less length and greater width than said body member hinged to the rear marginal edge of said ledge member and extending upwardly to lie adjacent the forward face of said vertically-disposed body member with parts of said attaching member extending outwardly beyond the sides of said body member to facilitate the attaching of the device to a vertical support.
