This application is a re-file for application, Serial No. 484,846, filed September 27, 1930.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a night dress and pajama.
The invention has for an object the provision of a device of the class mentioned which is of simple durable construction, dependable in use and eff cient in action, and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
The invention has for a further object the provision of a night dress and pajama having an upper portion attached along substantially the front half of the periphery of the tubular waist of a lower garment portion and having a neck cutout,
5. arm holes and a back consisting of paneled portions connected at their lower outer sides completely from the shoulders to the Waist with the other portions of the garment upper portion and having inclined inner sides to form a cutout back for the garment and of sumcient lengths to be tied together at the rear to form a bow with tails extending over and covering the rear slit in said lower garment portion.
It is another object of this invention to provide in a night dress and pajama a cutout back for style reasons and detachably connected so as to be capable of being separated and slipped off the shoulders and tied around the waist to bare the body above the waist for convenience in,
washing the neck, face, arms and chest.
Ihe invention also proposes a means for changing the position of the bow at the rear of the garment to provide different style effects.
For further comprehension of the invention, v and of the objects and. advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth. In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a picture of a person wearing a night dress constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a picture of the same person wearing a pajama constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 3 is a rear view of Fig. 1. Fig. 4. is a fragmentary rear elevational View of the garment, per se.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. .4. r
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view taken on the line 6--6 of Fig. '7. V
Fig. 7 is a perspective rear view of the garment, per se.
Fig. Sis a fragmentary view similar to a portion of Fig. '7, but illustrating a modification.
The night dress and pajama comprises a lower garment portion Ill with a tubular waist i l formed with a vertical rear slit I2 to provide for the slipping of the garment down over ones hip, and an upper garment portion l3 attached along substatially the front half id of the periphery of the tubular waist H and having a neck cutout l5, arm holes l6 and a back i! consisting of paneled portions l8 connected at their outer sides completely from the shoulders to the waist with the other portions of said garment upper portion and having inclined inner sides ill to form a cutout back for the garment and of sufiicient lengths to be tied together at the rearto form a bow 20 with tails ZI- extending over and covering the rear slits ii! in said lower garment portion H). r
In Fig. 1 the garment illustrated is a-dress, and isshown worn by a lady 22. In Fig. 2 the garment is formed with leg portions 23 so as to be a pajama. In other respects the two garments are identical. 'Each of the lower garment portions terminates at the top in the tubular waist II as clearly shown in. Fig. 6. The rear slit l2 may be held closed by buttons 24 sewed upon one of the edges forming the slit and engageable with button holes 25 formed along the other edge.
The lower garment portion terminates at the top in the tubular waist II as before mentioned a, and a waist band 2% is attached along the top edge and to the bottom edge of the upper garment portion. This waist band 26 is formed of two layers of material as clearly shown in Fig.5
and the garment lower portion in is inserted bea tween and sewed down to the layers by stitches 21. Similarly, the upper garment portion i3 is inserted between the two layers and sewed down by stitches 28. A plurality of darts 29 are formed in the lower edge of the upper garment portion for style reasons and also to reduce the diameter of this portion at the waist. An inspection of Figs. 4 and 7 will show that the garment upper portion 43 is attached only along substantially one half of the circumference of the garment lower portion, and particularly the front half, so that the panels ill may be opened or tied together as required.
3. The panels i8 are of suifi'cient length that a full sized how 20 may be formed and'that sufficient tails 2| extend from the bow to completely cover the slit l2. 7 7
In Fig. 8 a modified form of the device has been illustrated, in which a means is provided for changing the position of the bow formed by tying the panels l8 together to form different style effects. This means comprises a row of hooks 3] arranged vertically at the sides of the garment materially above the waist line, and e'ngageable over complementary eye elements 32 onthe panel portions I8 so that any number of these hooks may be engaged starting at the top downwards to limit the lower extremity at which the panels connect with the upper garment portion. For
this reason slits 33 extend from the waist line upwards along lines beneath the arm pits so that when the hook and eye elements are disengaged, the panels may terminate materially'above the waist line. panels A8 are brought transversely around to the rear of the wearer and tied, the position of the bow Will be determined by the last hook and eye elements from the top of the slits 33 which are engaged with each other. This adjustment will also increase the side openings 34, clearly shown in Fig. 3, between the panels of the waist of the garment to add to its attractiveness.
It is intended that the garment be used for night Wear. In the morning, after rising, the face, arms and chest of :the wearer may be washed by merely juntying the bow 20, slipping the shoulder portions off, and then tying the upper garment portion around the waist so that the body is bare above the Waist line.
7 While I have shown, and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims. 7 1
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:- V

the slipping of the garment down over ones hips, an upper garment portion attached along substantially the front half of the periphery of said tubular waist and having a neck out out, arm holes, and a back consisting of panel portions It should be noticed that when the connected at their outer sides completely from the shoulders to the waist with the other portions of saidgarment upper portion and having inclined inner sides to form a cut out back for the garment and of sufiicient lengths to be tied together at the rear to form a bow with tails extending over and covering the rear slit in said lower garment portion, and means for changing the position of said bow style effects. I
2. A night dress and pajama, comprising a lower garment portion with a tubular waist formed Witha vertical rear slot to provide for to produce different the slipping of the garment down over ones hips,
an" upper garment'portion attached along substantially the front half of the periphery of said tending over and covering the rear slit in said lower garment portion, and means for changing the position of said bow to produce different style effects, comprising fastener elements attached along one of the edgesof the panels and engageable with complementary fastener elements attached along a line beneath the arm holes and extending materially above and below the-waist line.
3. A night dress and pajama, comprising a lower garment portion with a tubular waist formed with a vertical rear slot to provide for the slipping of the garment down over oneis hips, an upper garment portion attached along substantiallythe front half of the periphery of said 'tubular waist and having a neck cutout, arm
holes, and a back consisting of panel portions connected at their outer sides completely from the shoulders to the waist with the other portions of 'said garment upper portion and having inclined inner sides to form a cutout back for the garment and of sufficient lengths to betied together at'the rear to form a'bow with tails ex tending over and covering the rear slit in said lower garment portion and means for changing the position of said bow to produce different style effects, comprising fastener elements attached along one of the edges of thepanels and engageable with complementary fastener elements along a line beneath the arm holes and extending materially above and below the waist line, and a slit formed between the two 'rcwsbf fastener elements. 7
