2 Claims.
This invention relates to a cot preferably adapted to be constructed of metal and to be convertible from a single form to a double form to support one or two springs and mattresses as required or preferred.
It is further aimed to provide a novel structure which is exceedingly simple, relatively inexpensive, durable and strong.
The more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawings illustrating an operative embodiment. Y

Referring speciiically to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate like or similar 40 parts, the device employs a lower spring and mattress supporting frame I0 and an upper spring and mattress supporting frame I I. Said frame IU is made of suitable angle iron material, with the vertical flanges uppermost and the frame is rec- 45 tangular. Such frame is elevated from the iioor by means of oor legs I2 depending from the same adjacent the corners and which legs are preferably tubular so that casters may be mounted therein if desired.
50 The upper spring and mattress supporting frame II is rectangular and preferably of angle iron material having a vertical flange or wall I3 extending above and below a'horizontal inwardly extending flange I4.
55 Pivotally connectedto the vertical flanges of the frames IU and I3 are links I5 preferably of angle iron material, the pivotal connections being on horizontal axis as at I6. A pair of such links are provided at each corner of the cot and the pairs are hinged or pivotally connected together on horizontal axis as at I'I. It will be realized that the cot may assume the position of gure I wherein the frames I0 and II are vertically spaced so that each of them may support a spring and mattress. When a single spring and mattress are 10 supported, links are swung downwardly and inwardly from the position of ligure 1 to the position of ligure 2 wherein the frame I I is superposed and supported on the frame I0. In such instance, the frame II mattress.
The upper and lower links I5 at each end of the cot are suitably braced in the extended position as through the medium of cross chains I8, of metal connected to the links, as best shown in Figure 3.
Suitable means are provided whereby the links are braced and effectively held in the vertical position of Figure 1. To this end, brace rods I9 are employed. Such brace rods have angular end portions 20 passing through plates 2l preferably welded to the links I5. Beyond such plates, the brace rods I9 havev heads 22 which are preferably accommodated in openings 23 in said links I5. The other ends of the rods I9 have lateral lugs 24 thereon which are engageable in opening 25 in the vertical iianges of the frame Il). The braces at I9 are somewhat resilient to enable them to be sprung so as to engage and dis-engage the openings 25.
In lieu of the said brace rods I9 or in addition thereto, if preferred, the links I5 adjacent the pivots I1 may have eyelets 26 thereon, through which a rod or bolt 21 may be removably passed, in order to prevent the breaking of the joints at 40 the hinges. 1
It will be noted that one flange of the links I5 at an end thereof, directly contact with adjacent vertical anges of the frames I0 and I3, to prevent unfolding of the links I5 past the vertical lianges. 45
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope ofthe invention.
I claim as my inventom- Y 1. A cot of the class described having a lower mattress supporting frame, an upper mattress supporting frame adapted to assume a superposed position on the lower mattress frame, said frames having vertical flanges, the upper mattress frame having a mattress-supporting flange ex 55 alone accommodates a spring and 15' tending inwardly below the top thereof, pairs of links at the corners of the cot, the links of each pair being pivoted together, said links being of angle form in cross section and each cutaway at one ange thereof to provide extensions pvoted to the frames on the interior thereof, the ends of the cutaway anges of each link in the unfolded condition of the cot resting on the edges of the vertical flange of the engaged adjacent frame, and means operable to maintain the links against collapse in the unfolded condition.

A cot of the class described having a lower mattress supporting frame, an upper mattress supporting frame adapted to assume a superposed position on the lower mattress frame, said frames having vertical anges, the upper mattress frame having a mattress-supporting ange extending inwardly below the top thereof, pairs of links at the corners of the cot, the links of each pair being pivoted together, said links being of angle form in cross section and each cutaway at one ange thereof to provide extensions pivoted to the frames on the interior thereof, the ends of the cutaway anges of each link in the unfolded condition of the Cot resting on the edges of the Vertical flange of the engaged adjacent frame, and means operable to maintain the links against collapse in the unfolded condition, comprising brace rods pivoted to certain of the links and engageable with the lower frame, and means extending across the joints of the links of each pair.
