When use of the paper is desired, the pencil may be unscrewed from the tubular sleeve, the paper holder withdrawn and eitherrthe pen or the pencil used for Writing upon the portion of the paper Withdrawn from the paper holder. It Will be obvious that, if so desired, the pen may be unscrewed from the tubular sleeve I inrorder to remove the paper holder and it will also be obvious that after the paper holder has been removed, the pen or the pencil which was removed in order to permit access to the paper holder may be returned to its position in the tube before Writing upon the paper.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

In a device of the character described, a paper holder comprising a cylindrical casing formed with va longitudinally extending slot,'aV bearing at one end of said casing, a block in the other end portion of said casing having a neck extending through the opening in the head of the casing,rmeans to prevent rotation of the block in one direction, the block being formed With an `axially extending bore, a stem rotatably received inthe bore of said block and having its inner end formed with a clutch member, a papervroller extending longitudinally in said casing with one endY journaled in said bearing and its other end formed with` a clutch member for engaging the clutch member of said stem, a helical spring coiled about said stem Within the bore of said block with oneend anchored to the stem and its other end anchored to the block, a cap tting about the outer end portion of said stem and held against rotation thereon, theneck of said block being formed with ratchet teeth, and pawls carriedY by said cap for engaging the ratchet teeth of said neck to hold the cap and stem against retrograde rotationvvhen ,the cap and stem are turned in a direction to Wind and tension said spring. d
