4 Claims.

This invention relates to an undergarment, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of the class referred to including as an element thereof a continuous resilient strap consisting of a U-shaped rear stretch anchored at its lower end to the back of the garment body and a pair of spaced upstanding front stretches forming continuations of the sides of the rear stretch anchored at their lower ends to the front of. the body of the garment, and with said element providing, when the garment is worn for perfect back and shoulder control; for shoulder straps; for controlling under arm purchase; for insuring perfect bust control; for givl6 ing an extreme high or low back and at the same time controlling the diaphragm; for distributing strain equally over its entire length; for tending to hug a hollow back; for eliminating any possibility of the back of the garment binding; for distributing the pull equally at all points; for tending to give a backward pull and support to the diaphragm and bust; and for tending to control the waistline below the shoulder blades and also forms into the hollow of the back whereby at all times in standing, sitting or bending position, it

will hug the body.

Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment for the purpose referred to which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly eificient in the use intended thereby, readily assembled and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

To the above ends and to others which may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts as will be'more specifically described and are as illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, Variations and modifications may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

The garment shown is of the girdle and brassiere type and has its body generally indicated at 5. The body 6 is formed of an upper section 1 providing a. brassire and a lower section 8 form- 7 ing a girdle. The section 8 is of greater length than section 7. The section 8 is preferably formed from closely knit fabric. The bottom of section I is secured to and throughout the top edge of section 8. The body 6 includes a front, a pair of sides and a back indicated at 9, ii], i i, and 52 respectively. The section 1 throughout is preferably formed of lace, or a net-like fabric shaped in a manner at its front to form the upper part of the front 9 as a bust covering portion 53 provided with a pair of tapered parts having their apices indicated at i4, E5. The apices of said parts are located in spaced relation with respect to the lengthwise median of the front of body 5 and the sides Iii, ii. That part of the section 7 which provides the upper portion of the back I2 and indicated at 16 has a segmental shape cutout H which forms a notch having its mouth opening at and adjacent the ends of the top edge of back I2. The notch, formed by the cutout l1, when the garment is worn appears as of substantially U-shaped contour.

The garment includes a continuous resilient element I8 of strap-like form provided with a U- shaped rear stretch l9, a pair of spaced intermediate stretches 20, Z! forming continuations of the upper ends of the sides of the stretch l9 and a pair of front stretches 22, 23 forming de-' pending continuations of the stretches 20, 2! respectively.

The lower portion of the stretch I9 is indicated at.:24 and it is extended in the notch formed by the cutout ll in proximity to the edge of the latter. The upper ends of portion 24 of stretch l9 are secured to the part iii by two spaced pairs of parallel securers which are anchored to the sides of stretch i9 and to the part it at the ends of the cutout Ill. The securers of one pair are indicated at 25 and those of the other pair at 26. The part I6 is hemmed as at 26*. The outer edge of the portion 24 of stretch I9 is connected to the hem 2t by a contractible and expandible coupling means 21 in the form of cat stitching. That portion of the part [6 bordering the edge of the cutout ll is fulled on the lower portion 24 of the stretch l9 by the coupling means 21 to provide for the expansion ofthe garment when worn to smooth out the top of part l6 and for contraction when the garment is not in use. The top edge of the lower portion 24 of stretch I9 is normally buckled as at 28 to provide for a smooth effect of portion 24 when the latter is extended.

The lower end of each of the front stretches extends between the folds 29, 30 of a folded strap 3|. The fold 29 has its upper end arranged between the rear face of part [3 and an inwardly turned portion 32 (Figure 4) of the part [3. The lower end of each front stretch seats upon the band 33 between the folds 29, 30. The upper ends of the folds, portion 32, a front stretch and part l3 are secured together by stitching 34. Adjacent the lower ends of the folds and front stretch, they are secured together and to the part l3 by the stitching 35. The foregoing arrangement provides for securing the elastic element to' the front of the garment.

The intermediate stretches 20, 2| provide suspensions on the shoulders for the garment.

The manner of setting up the element l8 relative to the back and front of the garment provides the advantages as heretofore referred to.

What I claim is: l. A womans undergarment comprising a body formed of brassireand a girdle, the front of the brassiere being formed at its upper portion with a pair of tapered parts having their apices spaced adjacent to opposed sides of the lengthwise median of the front of said body, the back of the brassiere being formed in its top edge with a cutout providing a notch having its mouth spaced from the ends of said edge, an elastic element of strap-like form including an upstanding U-shaped rear stretch, a pair of intermediate stretches forming shoulder extensions and forward continuations of the sides of the rear stretch and a pair of front stretches forming depending continuations of the intermediate stretches, the lower portion of said rear stretch extending into said notch, means for connecting the bottom edge of said lower portion of the rear stretch with the edge of said notch, and means for securing the lower end terminal portions of the front stretches to the apices of said tapered parts.

A womans undergarment comprising a body formed of brassiere and a girdle, the front of the brassiere being formed at its upper portion with a pair of tapered parts having their apices spaced adjacent to opposed sides of the lengthwise median of the front of said body, the back of the brassiere being formed in its top edge with a cutout providing a notch having its mouth spaced from the ends of said edge, an elastic element of strap-like form including an upstanding U-shaped rear stretch, a pair of intermediate stretches forming shoulder extensions and forward continuations of the sides of the rear stretch and a pair of front stretches forming depending continuations of the intermediate stretches, the lower portion of said rear stretch extending into said notch, means for connecting the bottom edge of said lower portion of the rear stretch with the edge of said notch, means for securing the lower end terminal portions of the front stretches to the apices of said tapered parts, and means for anchoring the upper ends of said lower portion to the end terminal portions of the edge of said notch.

A womans undergarment comprising a body part formed of a front, a pair of sides and a back, said back being formed with a cutout to provide a notch opening at the top edge thereof, said front being formed at its upper portion with apair of tapered parts having their apices spaced adjacent to opposite sides of the lengthwise median thereof, an elastic element of strap-like form including a rear stretch corresponding in contour to and of greater length than the depth of said notch, a pair of spaced intermediate stretches forming shoulder suspensions and forward continuations of the sides of the rear stretch and a pair of spaced front stretches forming depending continuations of the intermediate stretches, the lower portion of the rear stretch extending into said notch, a contractible and expandible coupling means connecting the outer edge of said lower portion of said rear stretch with the edge of said notch, and means for securing the lower end terminal portions of said front stretches to the apices of said tapered parts.

A womans undergarment comprising a body part formed of a front, a pair of sides and a back, said back being formed with a cutout to provide a notch opening at the top edge thereof, said front being formedat its upper portion with a pair of tapered parts having their apices spaced adjacent to opposite sides of the lengthwise median thereof, an elastic element of strap-like form including a rear stretch corresponding in contour to and of greater length than the depth of said notch, a pair of spaced intermediate stretches forming shoulder suspensions and forward continuations of the sides of the rear stretch and a pair of spaced front stretches forming depending continuations of the intermediate stretches, the lower portion of the rear stretch extending into said notch, a contractible and expandible coupling means connecting the outer edge of said lower portion of said rear stretch with the edge of said notch, means for securing the lower end terminal portions of said front stretches to the apices of said tapered parts, and oppositely extending spaced means for anchoring the upper ends of the said lower portion of the rear stretch to the end terminal portions of the edge of said notch.
