Description

L. LONG. Apparatus for Forming"Horse-Collars. No. 209,819
Patented Nov. 12,1878.
ATTORNEY N. PETERS, 'vHO'rO-UTHOGRAPMER, WASHINGTON. n. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
LOUIS LONG, OF EVANSVILLE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR FORMING HORSE-COLLARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 209,819, dated November 1'2, 1878; application filed October 12, 1878.
tion, which will en able others skilled in the art.
to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to collar-formers; and it consists of improvements in the construction of the same, hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
The face of the baseA is shaped to give the collar the ordinary conformation when being stretched. Astationary projection, B, of suitable conformation, rises from the base A, and is recessed at a to receive a sliding projection, B. The base A is slotted at I), and the sliding projection or portion B of the former has a depending flange, 0, provided on its lower face or edge with a plate, d. A spring, 0, secured to the lower face of the base A, operates to force the sliding portion B of the collar-former back within its recess a. The forward portion of the base A has arms 0 G, which are traversed by a shaft, D, each end of which is provided with a pawl, f, and ratchet-wheel g. One end of the shaft D has also a pivoted lever, E, to which the pawl or detent f is secured.
A chain, F, connects the shaft D and the flange c, and the lever E is operated to'draw the sliding portion B out to stretch the collar. When the pawls f are released from the ratchets g, the spring 0 forces the sliding portion B back within its recess, and the collar can be removed from the collar-former.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States. is
In a collar-former, the combination of the slotted base A, provided with the stationary projection B and sliding portion B c d, with the spring e, shaft D, and pawls, ratchets, 1ever, and chain, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses. 4
LOUIS LONG.
