1 Claim.
This invention relates to gas burners and more especially to a burner head and gas mixer.
An object of the invention is to provide a shank for the head divided into separate conduits for receiving air and gas from a mixer common to both conduits, each conduit having a Venturi portion whereby thorough mixing of the air and gas is insured.
Another object is to provide a burner head which is especially efficient when used with gas under low pressure.
A further object is to provide a Vmixer which constitutes a supporting and centering means for the shank of the head and is so made as to direct air and gas mixtures into both conduits equally.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as 25 claimed. Referring to the figures by characters of reference, I designates the gas pipe straddled by a substantially elliptical mixer 2 comprising a lower inlet portion 3 and an upper socket portion 4.
40 The mixer ts snugly on the pipe and is joined thereto by brazing, welding or in any other suitable manner. Opposite sides of the portion 3 are open to provide side inlets 5 and a partition 6 which fits snugly to the pipe, bisects the lower portion 2 4 and each of the inlets 5. This partition has its top edge located at the base of the upper portion 4.
Shoulders 1 are providedfwithin the mixer at the base of the portion 4 and constitute a seat forl the lower end of a shank 8 which, as shown in Figure 3, is substantially elliptical in cross sec'- tion, and fits snugly in the elliptical socket formed by the upper end portion 4 of the mixer.
Extending longitudinally through the shank are separate passages or conduits 9 and each of these conduits is contracted near its lower end to provide a Venturi portion I0.
Formed on the upper end of the shank 8 is anV elongated burner head II opening at its center into the conduits 9 and tapering from its center toward its closed ends I2. A series of outlet openings I3 is provided along the top of the head adjacent to each side. v
The pipe I has outlet ports I4 located in line with the axial centers of the conduits 9 and midway between opposed air inlets 5, it being understood that the partition 6 extends between these ports. V Gas escaping in small jets through the ports I4 will ow upwardly into the respective conduits 9, carrying with it air drawn `through the inlets 5. As the air and gas pass through the Venturi portions IIJ they will be mixed thoroughly and a highly combustible mixture thus will be delivered to the head II from each conduit. Y
By providing the construction and arrangement described a more thorough mixture of the air and gas is effected than should the same volume be directed through a single conduit of double capacity. It has been found in practice that this invention is especially suitable for Yuse with low pressure gas becausethe delivery of two streams of the combustible mixture into head `II creates a blast of great density and higher heating eiiiciency than would be possible without this construction. What is claimed is:
In a device of the class described, a pipe, av
hollow base member elongated transversely in the direction of the length of the pipe and having its lower end secured to the pipe, the base member being provided at its upper end with a transverse socket elongated in the direction of the length of the pipe, the base member having side air inlet openings, a burner head having a one piece shank seated in the socket and elongated transversely to correspond with the elongation of the socket, the shank having separate longitudinal passages communicating at their upper ends with the head and at their lower ends with the hollow base, the passages being separated by an integral longitudinal wall, the passages including Venturi portions defining a thickened partv in the wall, and a partition in the base and dividing the air inlet openings into apertures individual to the passages, the thickened part of the wall tapering downwardly to a thickness corresponding to that of the partition, the pipe having gas outlets dis- ROY S.
