Description

Oct. 5, 1937. N. GAINES SHOWER BATH CURTAIN Filed June 1, 1936 j INVENTDR.
ATTORNEY.
Patented Oct. 5, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
It is an object of my invention to provide a new type of curtain, particularly for tub and shower baths which will be more decorative than present curtains and conceals the curtain rod and provides an automatic valance or cover extending above the rod support. Also, I may use any type of curtain hook or support.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing in which I illustrate two species of my invention.
Figure 1 shows a rear elevation of one embodiment with integral valance supports.
Figure 2 shows a rear perspective view of one embodiment of separate valance supports, and
Figure 3 shows a rear elevation of one separate support.
Referring to the drawing, at l, I show a curtain proper supported on curtain rod 5 by any type of hook I or 8 as shown. These hooks in the embodiment of Figure 1 pass through the slot 901. of the hook eyelet hem l3 containing the hook eyelets 4a.. They also pass through the slots Id of the auxiliary hook support hem II, as shown. Integral with the upper valance portion la, and disposed in cooperative position with the hook eyelets 4m and slots I4, I position a vertically disposed semi-rigid brace Illa made of Whalebone, celluloid or other suitable material which obviously supports the curtain top in a substantially vertical plane above and to cover the curtain rod 5.
In the embodiment of Figures 2 and 3, I desire to provide a separate valance support 2, being a suitable cloth material, preferably same as the material of the curtain I. This encloses at seam l2 a semi-rigid support member In, of celluloid, Whalebone or other suitable material, an auxiliary band 3 adapted to form a hook passing loop when in position, an eyelet 4, hem 6 and hook aperture 9. Obviously these valance supports may be attached to any curtain, as shown in Figure 2, to accomplish my desired objects.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by United States Letters Patents, is:
1. A curtain adapted to a curtain support rod and curtain hooks, having disposed, near the top thereof, of a plurality of hook eyelets in a hem, lower hook apertures between curtain and hem to provide hook access through said eyelets, an auxiliary hook apertured upper hem disposed above said first hem, a corresponding plurality of 20 vertically disposed semi-rigid. support members in cooperative relationship with said eyelets and hook apertures, adapted to maintain the upper part of said curtain above said rod in a sub- 2r 0 stantially vertical plane.
2. A curtain as claimed in claim 1, having said hook eyelets, lower hook apertures, upper hook access apertures and hem, and vertical semirigid support members all integral and adapted to be separately attached to said curtain as and for the purposes claimed.
NATHANIEL GAIN'ES.
