A. J. HIRSCHLE CAPSULE FILLING DEVICE Filed Nov. 10, 1936 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventar Patented Aug. 31, 1937 UNITED STATS PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The present invention re1ates to new and useful improvements in capsule filling devices and has for its primary object I;o provide,in a manner as hereinafter set forth a device 0f this character comprising a, novel construction, combination am]. arrangement of parts through the medium of which a. large numb-er cf capsules ma.y be expeditiously and uniformly filled by persons having 1it1e 01' no professional sk1'11.
Another important object of ehe invenuion is w provide a device of the aforementioned character in which capsules of various sizes may be fi1led.
Other objects of the invention a.re provide a capsule filling device which Will be comparatively simple in construction, strong durable, eficient and reliable in use, compact and. which may be manufactured at 10W cost.
A11 of the foregoing and still further objects ancl advantages of the invention Will becorne apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection With the accompa.nying dra.wings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the severa1 views, and wheireinz Figure 1 is a view in top p1a.n of a. ca.psule fi11- i11g device constructed in accordance With the present invention.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation thereof.
Figur-e 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantia1ly 021 the 1ine 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a. view in top plan of the device with the apertured. top plate removed.
Figure 5 is a detai1 view in perspective of the cover p1ate.
Figure 6 is a. detail view in eleva.tion of the tamper.
Referring now to the drawings in detai], it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which Das been illustrated comprises an annular supporting base I having an external fiange 2 011 its lower end. The upper portion of the supporting base I is enlarged. anal externally threa.ded as at 3.
Threadedly mounted for x7ertical adjustment on the annular supporting base I is a. fing 4 which suppo=rts a, removable p1ate 5. The plante 5 ha.s formed therein openings 6 for the reception of the capsules 7. As illustrated '00 advantage in Figure 1 0f the dra.wings the openings 6 in Ehe plate 5 are preferably formed in groups of different sizes. II, may be weil to bare state that a. plurality of the p1ates 5, having diflerent sizes of openings 6 therein, ma.y be provided.
Mounted. on the upper end of the supporting base I, within the ring 4, is a. disk 8 Which comstitutes a table for supporting the capsules I, as best seen in Figure 3 of the drawings. Projecting from the periphery 0f the tab1e 8 are lugs 9 which are slidably engaged in vertical grooves II) which are formed in diametrially opposite sides of the ring 4 for connecting said tab1e to said ring for rotation therewith.
From a. consideration of the foregoing, it is thought that the manner of using the device Will be obvious, particularly to those skilled in the art to which the invention pertains. The device is assembled and the ca.psules I are inserted in the openings said capsules resting on the tab1e 8. The ring 4 is then adjusted on the supporting base I to bring the plate 5 substantially flush with the tops of the capsules. The substance (not shown) is then placed on the plate 5 and swept into the capsules. 01" course, any other procedure may be followed for pla.cing the substance in the capsules. After the capsules have been filled am]. tamped, the ring I is adjusted downwardly on the annular base I, thus lowering the platze 5 a.nd causing the capsules I to project thereabove. The capsules may then be conveniently closed or capped after which said plate 5 With the filled. and capped capsules suspended in the openings 6 thereof may be removed. It Will b-e readily apparent tha.t by simply raising or 1owering the ring I, with the p1a.te 5 thereon, capsules of various lengthg may be a.c commodated.
In Figure 5 0f the drawings Ehe reference numera.l II designa.tes a. substantially flat, angular plate which may be used to cover certain of the openings 6 in the plate 5 When all of sa.id openings are not t0 be used. The element I I ma.y also be used for transferring the substa.nce with which the capsules are to be filled to the reta.ining plate 5.
Figure 6 of the drawings illustrates a, ta.mper I2 which includes a. polygonal body I3 from the sides of which various sizes of fingers I4 project. The fingers I4 are engageable in the different sizes of capsules which a.re fi1led. for packing the substance which has been placed in sa.id ca.psules.
It is believed thau the many advantages of a capsule filling device constructed in accordance with the present invention Will be readily under stood and although a preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is be understood that cha.nges in the details of construction a.nd in the combination and a1- rangement of parts may' be resorted 130 Which will fa11 within I;he scope of the invention as cla.imed.
What is claimed is:-
1. A capsule filling device comprising a, supporting base a ring threadedly mounted. for vertical adjustment on the supporting bas e said.
threaded upper porbion, a ring threaded mountecl for vertical adjusment on the base said ring having vertical grooves in diametrically opposite sides of its inner periphery, a removable plate mounted on the ring, said plate having openings therein for the reception of the capsule, a table mounted on the upper end of the supporting.
base within the ring for supporting the capsules, and lugs projecting from the edge of the table and slidably engag-ed in the grooves for connecting 10 sa.id tab1e 130 the ring for rotation therewith.
