Description

'S. E. JONES. Mold for Casfuing Andirons.
} Patentd Oct. 15,1878.
UNITED STATES PATENT .QFFICE.
SAMUEL E. JONES, OF NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOLDS FOR CASTING ANDIRONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 209,054, dated October 15, 1878; application filed August 31, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL E. JONES, of
'Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Molds for Casting Dog-Irons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a perspective of my mold for casting dogirons, and Fig. 2 is an end View of the leg.
. The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a mold for casting dog-irons, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.
A represents the body of the mold, made of iron in suitable form, and provided with the semicircular cavity a, from which extends the groove 1), terminating in an enlargement, d, having a center core, 0, as shown.
From the mold A, at a point nearly in v the center of the circle of which the groove a forms a part, rises a post or standard, B, the upper end of which is forked.
0 represents the L-shaped leg which is to form a part of the dog-iron. This leg is placed. in the forked end of the support or standard B, and its lower end rests in the mold. This is open. By making or casting dog-irons in this wa v-that is, in an open iron moldI makea better and smoother casting than the old way of casting or molding in sand, and materially reduce the cost of production.
I am aware that sad-irons, cores, &c., have been cast in hinged closed iron molds, and to this class of molds I make no claim.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An open iron mold for casting dog-irons, made in one piece and having semicircular cavity a, groove 1), enlargement d, with core e, and the post B, forked at its upper end, constructed and operating substantially as and I for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed myname in the presence of two witnesses.
. SAML. E. JONES.
Witnesses:
G. T. J ONES, L. E. J ONES.
