Description
J. s. NELSON. Neck-Yoke Attachment for Harness.
No. 208,922. Patented Oct. 15,1878.
7 WITNESSES. 'nvr Lwz ofi.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES S. NELSON, OFINDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-YOKE ATTACHMENTS FOR HARNESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,922, dated October 15, 1878; application filed March 18, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs S. NELsoN, of the city of Indianapolis, county of Marion,
and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Breast-Strap Roller or Neck-Yoke Attachment, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof, and on which similar letters of reference indicate similar parts.
Figure 1 is a side view of my invention, partially in section, showing all the parts in the positions in which they work. Fig. 2 is also a side View, but shows the strap raised to receive the roller, which is shown at one side; Fig. 3, a view of the roller.
In said drawings, those portions marked A represent the frame-work of the device, which incloses that portion of the strap which passes over the ring on the neck-yoke, and also furnishes a bearing for the roller over which the strap runs. 13 is the roller, which admits of the free movement of the strap, and thus relieves the animals of the violent jerking consequent upon the sudden movements of the tongue of the wagon when its wheels encounter obstructions. O is the breast-strap to the harness, which is the same as the ordinary breast-strap, except that it has no buckle, which becomes unnecessary by the use of my device, as the strap is pushed through the frame, as shown in Fig. 2, and the roller inserted, and when brought to a working position, as shown in Fig. 1, the strap and the roller are held in place by each other, thus allowing the rings and snaps to be permanently attached to the strap, and doing away with all other fastenin gs. a a are cross-bars in the frame A.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap and durable device for attaching breaststraps to neck-yokes, through which said straps may move freely, so as to lessen the wear upon the straps themselves and relieve the horses 01 the jerking of the pole of the wagon, and thus prevent the consequent galling of their necks. This object is fully'accomplished by the appliances herein shown and described.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a neck-yoke attachment, the combination, with the frame A, of the removable roller B, held in place in open bearings by the attaching-strap, substantially as shown and specified.
2. The combination of the frame A, breaststrap 0, provided with suitable attaching devices, and the removable roller B, held in open bearing by the strap, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 14th day of March, A. D. 1878.
JAMES S. NELSON. [L. s]
In presence of O. BRADFORD, JOHN '1. FoRsYTH.
