Suitable retainers 23 and 24 are welded to the ring section 8 and are positioned to receive the "handle ends of the respective levers l1 and I2 and to retain them in closed position.

I claim:
1. A device for removably clamping a cover on the open end of a metallic receptacle including a channeled clamping ring split transversely at a plurality of points about its circumference and having portions engaging the. cover and the recepta cle to press the same together when the ring-is contracted, and means for contracting the ringincluding "levers pivoted tothe ends of one ring'section and swing'able outwardly ofthe ring,
links pivotally connected with the adjacent ends of an adjacent section and with said levers, one
of said operating links and levers having a greater leverage ratio than said other cooperating link andlever whereby said ring may be contracted sufllcien'tly to maintain acover in fixed position on the receptacle by operating one of said levers,
