Description

June 29, 1937. M. w. JANOWSKI CAN HOLDER AND SERVER Filed Jan. 50, 1936 I 3mm Marian W (Inna waltz extends into a narrower Patented June 29, 1937 UNITED STATES 2,085,6iil
PATENT OFFICE 4 Claims.
This invention relates to a' can holder and server, capable of use with cans which contain various commodities and for example beer.
It is aimed to provide a novel construction ca- 5 pable of manufacture from a single blank of metal or other material, expeditiously and inexpensively.
The more specific objects and advantages will,
become apparent from a consideration of the de- 1 10 scription following taken in connection with accompanying drawing illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said drawing:-
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation 01' the 1 15 improved device;
Figure 2 is a view line 2-2 01' Figure 1;
Iigure 3 is a perspective view of the device an Figure 4 is a which the device is constructed.
Referring specifically to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, the device is initially struck in a single blank from sheet metal or other material, in the form disclosed in Figure 4.
The device consists oi a base plate ll ,trom which an upright wall ll rises, such wall at the lower edge resting on the base plate i and being connected thereto by a neck I! upbent at a right angle to the wall II and returned over the base plate, thereby insetting the wall ll in-the margin of the base plate.
Said wall or upright ll may be of any desired width or configuration but preferably is arcuate and widened at the lower portion as at I! and portion It. From the portion II, the portion II is bent outwardly into the form of a handle, whose free end as at I! may be welded or soldered to the wall II.
A struck-up tongue i1 is providedon the base plate II and a struck-out hook it is provided at the Junction 01' the portions l4 and Ii, the same extending over'the base plate.
The device is adapted to be used, for example, to hold a can such as that suggested in dotted lines'at II which is 01' the type in which beer is marketed, although no limitation is to be implied to the use with this particular material. Such a can has its top and bottom depressed as shown at I! and 2|, respectively.
Intheuseotthedevicathe-canisdisposed with its bottom resting on the tongue II and hence thelatterextsndsintoths II.
taken substantially on the plan view of the blank from The can is then depressed, accordingly depressing the tongue against its tension, to enable the can to engage under the hook I8, and the latter to hook over the marginal edge of the top of the can. The can will thus be removably and resil- 5 lently held in place through the spring tension of the tongue l1, urging the can into tight engagement with the hook it, lateral displacement of the can being avoided by contact oi the latter with the widened wall portions I3.
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope oi. the invention.
I claim as my invention:-
1. A can holder of the class described, having a base, a relatively narrow wall rising from one side of the base, a hook on said wall for retaining engagement by a can or the like, and an upstruck resilient tongue on said base to engage \a can or thelike and urge the same toward and maintain it in engagement with said hook.
2. A can holder of the class described, having a base, a relatively narrow wall rising from one side 01' the base, a hook on said wall for retaining engagement by a can or the like, and an upstruck resilient tongue on said base to engage a can or the like and urge the same toward and maintain it in engagement with said hook, said base having a returned portion integrally engaging said wall.
3. A holder for a can or the like made from a single blank of material having a base, and upstruck resilient tongue on said base, a return portion over said base, a wall rising from said return portion and being arcuate adjacent the base, said wall having a struck-out hook en-' gageable with a can or the like, and a handle extending from said wall in a direction opposite to the hook.
4. A holder for a can or the like made from a 40 single blank 01' material having at one end an enlarged portion comprising a base, an upstruck resilient tongue on said base, a narrow return portion over said base, a wall portion rising from said return portion said wall portion being relatively wide adjacent to the base and tapering and its extended portion relatively narrow, an outstruck hook on said extended portion for engagement with a can or the like, and the extremity of said extended portion providing a handle extending from said extended portion in a direction opposite to the hook.
