Description
L. V. VILLANI June 29, 1937.
HOLDER Filed Jan. 14, 1936 Inventor Patented June 29, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in holders and more particularly to a holder of the type especially adapted for holding doors against walls.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a holder of simple construction which can be readily secured in place on a wall or wall baseboard and a door without in the least detracting from the appearance of either.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents a longitudinal sectional view through the assembly.
Figure 2 represents a cross sectional view taken substantially on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 represents a front elevational View of the socket structure.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the socket structure generally referred to by numeral 5 consists of a shell 6 having pressed in portions 7 extending longitudinally thereof at equal circumferentially spaced intervals to define pockets 8 for the reception of the spring fingers 9. Each of these spring fingers is secured at one end as at It to the inside of the shell 6 by welding or some other suitable means or method. The opposite end portion of each of these spring fingers 9 is bent laterally as at l l and then backwardly as at l2 with an outwardly curved extremity l3.
These outwardly curved extremities i3 converge toward each other in the manner shown substantially in Figure 1. These fingers are of spring material and form a constricted passageway in alinement with the opening H1 in the front of the shell 6.
For securing the socket shell 6 toa wall or baseboard, a screw [5 is provided which projects through an opening in the rear end of the shell from a head structure It which is of cup formation to retain the resilient bumper ll against which the male member l8 can strike. This male member l8 has its head portion gradually enlarging toward its outer end where it curves off in a hemi-spherical shape. The opposite end is provided with a screw I9 which is to be driven into a door.
Obviously when the socket member and the male member l8 are properly placed on a baseboard and a door, when the door is opened and moved toward the baseboard, these two parts will engage and retain the door in open position.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A keeper of the character described comprising a shell open at one end, a fastener projecting from the opposite end of the shell, inwardly disposed and longitudinally extending depression in the shell defining troughs between the same, elongated strip spring members snugly disposed in the troughs and having their ends adjacent the opening bent backwardly, theiree ends of the backwardly bent forces being disposed in converging relation.
