This invention relates to improvements in store display fixtures and belongs to the class of exhibition devices for display of various kinds of merchandise.
More particularly, this invention relates to improvements in holders or supports for partin tions adapted to be arranged in pairs, one to support a partition at each end thereof, the support having portions which are slidable in channels formed in the edges of fixed members,
whereby said pair, with the partition therebetween, may be moved and the location of the partition thus changed at will, as set forth in my copending joint application, ASerial No.
Among the objects of this invention are: to provide an improved form of partition holder` which is so braced that it is stronger, and has a greater resistance to bending than any existing holder known to applicant; which has the sliding portions so formed that they will automatically anchor themselves in their cooperating grooves in whatever position they may be placed; which may be instantly unlocked for removal to a changed position at will; which partition holders will be simple in form and low in cost, preferably an integral stamped member of sheet metal.
Other objects will appear as this description proceeds.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel and useful formation, construction, interrelation and combination of parts, members and features, as Well as mode and methods of use thereof, all as hereinafter described, shown in the drawing and finally pointed out in claims.

In the figures, I2 and I3 form the two parallel sides and I4 the back connecting and supporting member of a channel or jaw which is (Cl. S12- 140) adapted to accommodate the edge of a partition member J. Rear member I4 of this channel extends longitudinally beyond the limits of the channel, and this member I4 spreads diagonally outward in each direction to greater width with increasing distance from the end of the channel, as shown. This member I4 is, therefore, widest at the bottom il-II and narrowest at zone lE-IE just at the beginning of the jaw sides I2 and I3. The wide end I'I-I'I is bent at right angles to the surface of plate I@ to form a slide member I8 adapted to Work in a groove 22, which latter is formed in the edge of the lower horizontal boards D, which boards constitute the bottoms of the compartments, the sides whereof are formed by the movable partitions J cooperating with other partitions H transverse thereto. Partitions J are carried by the paired members described and shown and by sliding the projecting part I8 in the slots 22, the partitions J may be moved to any preferred position and the width of the compartment correspondingly changed. But, unless some means of anchorage is provided, any slight force will move the partitions J and the sliding supports.
Since the partitions J are usually thin, being preferably of glass, the section of the back member Ill is comparatively narrow at the zone I5-I 5 and, being usually made of thin metal, the usual forms of supports may be easily bent in a direction transverse to the plane of member I6. Hence, in order to strengthen this improved holder, diagonal bracing gussets Ill and Il are provided which are continuations of jaw sides I2 and I3 respectively, and these braces merge into the rear at plate member lll as depicted.
An effective form of anchorage to hold the support members from sliding in the edge grooves or slots 22 is provided by bending or bowing part IS longitudinally so that it is not fiat but is curved between its ends as shown in the iigures, the ends presenting sharp edges IQ-IS to the surface of the groove 22 and the height of the camber being such that part I8 extends across the width of the groove 22, which causes the upper surface of member I3 to press against the upper surface of groove 22 while the lower sharp edges I 9--I9 ride against the lower surface of groove 22. Since the grooves 22 are usually formed in wooden members, the edges IE5-I9 will cut into the material and thereby anchor the support member. By lifting upward, and thereby compressing the upper bent portion of part I8, thereby raising an end I9 from the groove bottom, the support member slides easily in its groove and when released again anchors itself, by a sharp end I9 cutting into the surface of the groove.
Obviously, the form of the slide member I8 may be changed so that it is bent to curve upward as shown in Fig. 4, instead of downward as depicted in Fig. 3. Also, the member I8 may eX- tend past the gusset plate I4 at each end as shown in Fig. 5 instead of being limited in length to the width of plate l, as shown in Fig. 3. In fact this last form seems to provide somewhat better spring or elasticity than these forms in which slide member i9 is coextensive with the end of plate I. Having described my invention in connection With illustrative embodiments, forms, proportions and arrangements of parts, it Will be understood that many variants thereof are possible to those skilled in the art, and my invention, in its broader aspects, is not limited to the specific construction herein described and shown, as changes in the sizes, proportions, configurations, arrangements, assemblage, interaction, juxtaposition and mechanical relations, as well as additions, omissions, substitutions, combinations and alterations of forms, parts, members and features, may be made Without departing from the broad spirit of this: invention.
Having thus disclosed my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a sliding support for partitions, the combination of a support plate having a channel at one end thereof for reception of a partition edge,
a slide portion at the opposite end of said plate adapted to Work in ay groove, said groove being perpendicular to the surface in which it is formed and said slide being bent along its length to extend across the groove Width.
2. A sliding partition support of the character disclosed having a channel for reception of a partition edge attached to one end of a support plate and gusset extensions of the Walls of said channel connected with said support plate, a slide portion at the end of said plate opposite to the channel portion and adapted to Work in a groove, said slide portion being perpendicular to the surface of the plate and extending along said plate end, and being bent transversely along its length, to provide resilient compression contact against opposite faces of said slot.
3. In combination, a bottom planar member having a groove in an edge thereof, a partition adapted to be adjustably movable over said bottom member, a partition support comprising a vertical plate having an end bent into a horizontal plane adapted to vvolk in said groove, a partitionreceiving channel near the opposite end of said plate, bracing means between said channel walls and said vertical plate, and anchoring means for said bent portion working in the groove comprising an end of said portion bent to extend across said groove.
4. In a support of the character disclosed, a slide portion adapted to move in a groove, the thickness of said portion being less than the Width of said groove, said slide portion being bent longitudinally whereby its ends are adapted to press against one surface of the groove While a part intermediate its ends is adapted to presseresiliently against the opposite surface of said groove.
5. In a device of the character described, the combination of a bottom planarimemb-er, having a groove in an edge thereof Vperpendicular to the surface of said edge; a partition adapted to be adjustably moved over said bottom member, a partition support comprising a member having a longitudinal portion adapted to Work in said groove and an extension therefrom having a partition-receiving channel therein, the channel being substantially normal to` the longitudinal portion, and resilient means for anchoring said partition support in the groove comprising distortion of said longitudinal part along its length whereby a portion of said member is caused to exert pressure against one surface of the groove and another portion thereof is caused to exert pressure against the opposite surface of the groove. l I
