UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MECHANISM FOR THE WORKING AND REGULATION OF THE HEALDS COURSE Juan Picafiol Camps, Barcelona, Spain 4 Claims.
The invention relates to harness motions for weaving looms.
According to the main feature of the invention, heald-wire frames are raised and lowered by means of a parallel linkage system operated through levers from the shedding cams.
According to a further feature of the invention the position and movement of the harness is regulable and such regulation is effected by the displacement of the pivot point of the levers operating the parallel linkage system.
Other features of the invention will be pointed out as the description proceeds.
One embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the improved harness motion,
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary plan view thereof on a larger scale, showing the disposition of the shedding cams and operating levers.
Fig. '3 shows the parts illustrated in Fig. 2 seen from the rear of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the same parts, seen from the right of Fig. 1.
Figs. 3 and 4 are on the same scale as Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, the improved harness motion is shown as applied to a loom having a plurality of harness (two being shown in Fig. 1) each comprising a rectangular frame I fitted with heald wires 24. Each frame is suspended by means of trunnions 2|, 2| in two vertically movable vertical U-section bars I6, I 6' guided near their upper ends in brackets ill, I? fixed by screws it to the loom frame I9, I9. At its lower end each bar is is pivotally connected by a pin 80 to the end of one arm of a bell crank lever 55 pivoted at 42 on a bracket 22 of the loom frame. Each bar It is likewise connected at 40 to the end of one arm of a three armed lever I3 pivoted on the loom frame at 23. The end of the other arm of each bell crank lever is connected to the end of one of the other arms of the corresponding three armed lever I3 by means of links it pivoted to said arms at II and II respectively. Each set of bars I6, I6, bell crank lever I5, three armed levers I3 and link I4 forms a parallel linkage system which, when in oscillating motion, is adapted alternately to raise and lower the corresponding heald frame I.
Oscillating motion is imparted to each parallel linkage system by a link I2 pivoted to the third arm of the corresponding three armed lever I3 at one end and to the lower end of one or a number of operating levers 8, pivoted at its upper end in a sliding block 6. Each operating lever 8 is provided substantially midways of its length with a roller 9 which engages in a groove formed in the face of a corresponding shedding cam It, so that when the cam rotates the lever 8 is rocked and imparts oscillating movement to the corresponding parallel linkage system, with the result that the corresponding heald frame I is caused to ascend and descend.
The sliding block 6 and the upper ends of the levers 8 are provided with a plurality of corresponding holes I, I, l" and through one of these holes in the block 6 and the corresponding holes in the lever 8 a pivot pin is thrust, around which the levers 8 oscillate. The throw of the levers 3 and therewith of the heald frame I may be varied by the displacement of the pivotal point of the levers.
The block 6 is mounted for sliding on the bracket 20 of the loom frame and has elongated holes through which extend bolts 25, 25' passed through holes in the bracket 28, and with the aid of these bolts and their nuts 5, 5 the block 6 may be fixed in adjusted position. Adjustment is effected by means of a threaded extension 2 of the block 6 and lock nuts 3 and 4, the extension 2 passing through a hole in a lug of the bracket 20.
The shedding cams Ill (see particularly Fig. 3) are fixed by screws 43 and nuts II to a shaft 35 mounted in the bracket 25 and carrying at its rear end a gear 34, meshing with a gear 31 mounted on a shaft 33, to which is fixed by screw 33 and nut 32 a bevel gear 3! meshing with a bevel gear fixed to the crank shaft 36 of the loom by screw 29 and nut 28. The cams are thus rotated by the crank shaft through the bearing just described.
The operation of the improved harness motion will be obvious from the foregoing description. It will be seen that the position of the shed formed by the healds is adjustable by means of the sliding block 6, the throw of the shed being variable by the positioning of the pivot pin of the levers 8 in one of the holes I, I, i. It will also be observed that in the present harness motion all healds are adjusted collectively.
I claim:
1. Mechanism for working and regulating the heald frames, comprising in combination for each frame a grooved cam, a straight lever stationary at one end, a pivot pin supporting the upper end of said lever, a roller mounted at a point intermediate the length of said lever and cooperating with said cam to oscillate said lever about said pin, a three-armed lever oscillatably mounted at a point below one side of said frame, a link conmeeting the lower end of said straight lever to one arm of said three-armed lever to transmit the 5 oscillating movement of said straight lever to said three-armed lever, a bell-crank lever oscillatably mounted at a point below the other side of said frame, a connecting rod connecting a second arm of said bell crank lever to transmit the movement 10 of said three-armed lever to said bell crank lever,
and two parallel vertically slidable bars connected at their lower ends one to the third arm of said three-armed lever and the other to the second arm of said bell crank lever and at their 15 upper ends one to each side of said frame to vertically displace said frame during the oscillation of said bell crank lever and said three-armed 3. In a mechanism as specified in claim 1 a bracket carrying the pin supporting the upper end of said straight lever, said bracket having a plurality of holes arranged one above the other, said pin adapted to be selectively inserted in anyone of said holes to vary the point of engagement of the roller with said cam and determine the amplitude of oscillation of said straight lever, and means for horizontally displacing said bracket to adjust the position of the shed formed by the healds.
4. In a mechanism as specified in claim 1 a bracket carrying the pin supporting the upper end of said straight lever, said bracket having a plurality of holes arranged one above the other,
JUAN PICAFTOL CAMPS.
