Y ADVERTISING MEDIUM Filed Oct. 13, 1936 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Patented May 1 8, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFlCE Application October 13,
1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in advertising utilities and more particularly to a combination fan and eye shield.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide an advertising medium in the form of a blank which can be conveniently torn along certain predetermined slit lines and subsequently folded to form both an eye visor or shield and also a hand fan.
Another important object of the invention is to provide an advertising utility which can be given out at outdoor meets such as baseball, tennis and other games so that the acquirer can from one blank form himself both a sunshade and a fan.
These and various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:,
Figure 1 represents a plan View of the entire blank.
Figure 2 is an edge elevational view of the blank.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the sunshade after it has been formed.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the fan, after the same has been formed.
Referring to Figure 1 it can be seen that numeral 5 generally refers to the complete blank of which numeral 6 represents the sunshade section while numeral 7 represents the fan section.
The entire blank is of substantially rectangular shape. Extending inwardly from one end of the sheet are the slit lines 8-9 which are met at an intermediate point on the sheet by the ends of the semi-circular slit line 10. The lines B-9 form a marginal portion I ll2 which form the strap portion of the sunshade 6 which has the rectangular-shaped window l3 therein. The window portion of the shade has a fold line l4 and extending from the ends of this fold line M are the oblique fold lines l5l6 meeting the end portion of the semi-circular slit line lil.
Along each of the marginal portions HI2 are the transverse fold lines l"l-l8l920 and 2|. The end portion of the marginal portion II is provided with transverse slits 22 for receiving 1936, Serial No. 105,420
the reduced extension 23 on the marginal portion l2. V-shaped slits 2 l-2 i are provided in the sides of the fan section I and from the apices of these V-shaped slits fold lines extend and these fold lines are denoted by reference character 25 and terminate at the points 26-26, the flap 28 being provided with a slit 29 therein for receiving the corner portion 36 of the flap 2'! when the flap 2! is folded over on to the flap 28 to form a handle as shown in Figure 4.
It can now be seen, that first the sheet is torn along the lines 89 on the line Ill so as to remove the section 7 from the section 6. The fan section l is then bent along the lines 25-25 after the V-shaped cutouts 2l24 are made and the corner portion is inserted into the slit 29. Thus the fan is constructed.
The marginal portions H-l2 of the section 6 are bent on the fold lines ll-l8l9--2li and 2| and the shade portion is slightly folded on the line i5l6. The window portion is inclined downwardly by folding on the line [4. By placing the marginal portions around the sides of the head and inserting the reduced portion 23 of the marginal portion l2 through a pair of the slits 22 in the marginal portion II, the sunshade will remain on the head in a positive manner.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:
An advertising medium comprising a sheet of flexible material, said sheet being provided with spaced slit lines extending inwardly from one end, a, transversely extending slit line connecting the inner end of the inwardly disposed slit lines defining within its limits the fan section and without its limits a sun glare section, a windowed portion in the sun glare portion, said fan section being provided with lines upon which the sheet is to be folded to form a handle portion.
