HOSIERY DRYING AND STRETCHING DEVICE Filed Sept 4, 1956 Inventor A llomqy Patented May 11, 1937 PATENT OFFICE HOSIERY DRYING AND STRETCHING DEVICE Elizabeth A. Logan, Princeton, Ky.
Application September 1 Claim.
This invention relates to that already well recognized category of devices referred to in the art as hosiery display, drying and stretching frames or the like, and has reference in particular to a duplex style all-wire unit, appreciably different from prior art devices to the extent that it constitutes an additional contribution to this specific line of endeavor.
Needless to say, and as implied by the introductory statement, I am aware that so-called wire frames and the like of a more or less predetermined configuration and shape have been patented and used for the aforementioned pur' poses in the trade. It follows therefore, that the l5 present invention has reference to certain specific structural improvements and refinements believed suflicient to provide the art with a comparatively new and aptly fitted hosiery and stocking stretcher.
The present invention relies for novelty upon a simple and economical one-piece non-corrodible unit embodying duplicate companion forms or frames and adjoining means susceptible of being conveniently suspended on a clothes line, hanger nail, bracket or the like.
Other features and advantages may become apparent from the following description and drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational View of the duplex style unit constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view taken approximately on the plane of the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view showing the forms in positions at right angles to those illustrated in Fig. 1, wherein said forms are in opposed parallelism.
In carrying out the principles of the present invention, I take a single piece of non-corrodible Wire of appropriate resilient properties and bend it between its ends to form a substantially U- shaped member whose bight portion 4 constitutes a convenient hanger element susceptible of being placed on a clothes line, wall bracket, suspension nail or the like, (not shown). The arm portions of the so-called U-shaped part indicated by the numeral 5 are disposed in somewhat outwardly diverging relationship and are properly curved in longitudinal dimensions as shown. Then the terminals of the wires are bent upon themselves to form the stretching frames or forms 6. Each part 6 is composed of a portion I extending at right angles to the adjacent arm 5 formed into 4, 1936, Serial No. 99,467
a return bend at 8 and then bent vertically as at 9 to form the foot and leg portion of said form. The free end portion I0 is bent at right angles parallel to the part 1 and terminates in an eye or hook I l which embraces the intermediate part of the connecting U-shaped means. Thus, in effect, we have a pair of duplicate forms or frames 6 joined by the U-shaped part which projects above them to constitute an appropriate connector and hanger member.
The construction is such that the forms 6 can be bent fiat into the same plane as illustrated in Fig. l, or they may be turned around to 45 angles and bent into spaced parallelism as indicated partially in Fig. 3.
The gist of the invention is in the one-piece wire formation utilized for simplicity and economy.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawing. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice, if desired.
What I claim as new is:-
As an article of manufacture, a duplex hosiery form comprising a single piece of wire bent intermediate its ends to provide a U-shaped hanger portion having straight parallel side stretches, said ends being bent below said stretches into divergent curvilinear relation to provide the rear side of said form and then bent to form the feet, front side, and top part of said form, respectively, said top parts being right angularly related to the front parts of their respective forms and terminating in eye portions closely embracing said side stretches of the hanger portion at the juncture of said stretches and said divergent curvilinear bends, whereby said eye portions are prevented from working down on said curvilinear bends and the forms from becoming distorted, said hanger portion extending Well above said form to provide for suspending the latter within reach from an overhead support, and the straight stretches of said hanger portion being widely spaced apart to facilitate suspending said hanger portion over a wide support.
