This invention relates to a battery cable connecter and has for the primary object the provision of a simple and practical device of the above stated character which may be easily and quickly applied to a battery post and will provide an efficient electrical connection therewith and with an electrical cable or conductor and will materially retard the development of corrosion and the transmittal thereof to the cable or connecter. With these and other objects in view this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
5 For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view illustrating a connecter constructed in accordance with my invention.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary plan view showing the battery post socket of the connecter.
Figure 5 is a sectional View taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral I indicates the body of the connecter having a socket 2 opening outwardly through one end thereof. The walls of the socket are slightly tapered to receive a battery post 3. Slots 4 are formed in the body and open through walls of the 35 socket 2 to provide in that portion of the body having the socket flexible portions externally screw threaded, as shown at 5, on which is threaded a-nut 6. The body tapers gradually towards the open end of the socket so that on 40 threading the nut 6 towards the open end of the socket the tapered portion will be caused to grip the post and thereby establish an efiicient electrical connection with the latter.
A rigid conductor arm 1 is formed integrally with the body at the non-socketed end thereof and extends angularly to the body and has its free end socketed, as shown at 8, to receive an electrical conductor 9. It is to be understood that the conductor is secured to the walls of the socket 8 in any well known manner. A tapered lug I0 is integral with the conductor arm 7 adjacent the socket 8 and extends at right angles to the conductor arms to which a conventional type of split clamp of an electrical conductor may be applied.
C'ups II are formed integrally with the arm 7 and the body I. The cup H on the body I is arranged between the screw threaded portion of the body and the arm 1 while the cup H on the arm I surrounds the base of the post If]. The cups have positioned therein absorbent material I2 adapted to be saturated with grease or lubricant acting to retard corrosion from forming about the upper portion of the body I and about the post ill and the clamp applied thereto. As clearly shown by Figure 1, the cups H have formed in the mouths thereof an inwardly directed ring flange II which contacts with the washer or packing l2 to hold the same in the cup and to prevent lubricant seeping through the cup when the connecter is handled or arranged on a battery in other than an upright position.
The body I, nut 6 and the conductor arm I are preferably constructed or made of antimony mixed with lead to resist the formation of corrosion from the acid of the battery.
Surrounding the conductor arm 1 between the body I and the post In is a sleeve constructed of asphalt and pitch also acting to prevent corrosion.
A connecter of the character described will provide an efiicient electrical connection between an electric conductor and the terminal post of a battery and will prevent the accumulation of corrosion and the attacking of the electrical conductor by corrosion.
Having described the invention, I claim:
A battery connecter comprising an angle memher having means at the ends thereof for attaching the same to a battery post and to a conductor, and said connecter, adjacent to its said ends being integrally formed with outstanding lubricant cups which have, at their mouths inwardly directed ring flanges for retaining packings and a lubricant in said cups.
