IMPROVEM E-NT IN TYPE-CASES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES W. DICKIN; soN, of Belleville, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Type-Cases, of which the followingis a full, true, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings.

The object of my invention is to make a typecase for holding several rows of type, which shall be light and portable, while at the same time strong enough to resist the ordinary handling of a printing-office, inexpensive, and readily made.

My improved case is formed of' a single sheet of tin or other equivalent flexible material, which is bent into a suitable number of 'parallel channels, each of which is arranged to receive and support a single row of type. The bent case thus formed may be strengthened` by a series of supports or racks entering the channels from beneath, to which this bent case may be attached.

My invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawings, in which--I Figure l represents a perspective view, and

A sheet of tin (represented by A) is bent into a series of channels, c. As shown, the bottoms of the channels are square, while the up'- per parts are rounded. It is preferable to have the bottoms iiat for the feet of the type to rest and slide upon. Soldered to the end of the combined case so formed is the strengthening-piece B. vThis has a series of tongues, 1*, which enter the grooves formed beneath the case. There may be several ot' these racks used to strengthen the case at dierent points of its length, depending on the length of the case employed. I iind it advantageous tov 1. As a new article of manufacture, a combined typefcase formed of a sheet of bent or folded tin or equivalent material, substantially as described.

2. A combined type-case formed of bent or folded tin, and provided with supportingtongues entering the folds of the tin from bcf neath, substantially as described.

3. A combined type-case formed of folded tin, A, having supporting-racks B and the per forated plate F, substantially as described.
